I gotta ask...if Nasir is a 4 star album what else is a 4 star album to you guys lol? That album is a 2.5 or 3 at best. And it's not even Nas' fault when you consider how poorly it's mixed (fukk Mike Dean) and that much of the production doesn't fit who he is as a rapper. Kanye dropped the ball.

YEP! From the overall quality of Nas' vocals throughout the whole album to certain beats sounding too loud (White Label and Bon Jour). Just horrible.

Like you said, Kanye's production here wasn't for Nas. Disappointing how Kanye couldn't tap into a classic "Nas sound."

Since it's release I've lowered the album's rating to about 3.25 - 3.5.

On the other hand, LT2 is already a personal classic. :wow:

2020 GRAMMY Performers & Host

He's not performing at the Grammys. Must've been some confusion with Lil Nas X performing.
The list is not complete, Lil Nas X isnt listed either.

"Below is the current list of the 2020 GRAMMY performers and host for the 62nd Annual GRAMMY Awards. Continue to check back weekly for updates as we count down to Music’s Biggest Night, broadcasting live on the CBS Television Network Jan. 26, 2020 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT."

UMG announced it so i think its official :

the album was awful.

Nas is my favorite rapper, but the downside to threads like this is props to wack shyt like this.
That's your opinion. I personally dont think its wack. And ole buddy that tweeted it isn't on this thread. I like not for radio, cops shot the kid, bonjour, everything, Adam and eve and simple things and I find nothing wack about those records. The nasir film was dope to in my opinion. My point was it's no where near as wack as some people say.

Actually it is wack, but we will agree to disagree.

I know I'm in the minority, but I think NASIR (and Lost Tapes 2) is a classic and better than Life Is Good. I liked the production a lot more and even though Nas was spitting his ass off on LIG, he was using that sped up flow where he kind of put too many words in the bar.
:dwillhuh:

Life is Good is damn near perfect. :ahh:

Man I just listened to distant relatives again and it's an absolute classic. I will never forgive the hip hop media for not pushing this to the top. The lyrics, beats, message are incredible. The instrumentation is person. Nas and Damian were perfect together. Nas has some of his best bars on here too.

I’m ok with NASIR. Imperfectly fine with it. It may not be the Nas album we wanted or was expecting after 6 yrs off but it’s Nas and where he is in his life. Would we all love to hear that Nasty Nas? Absolutely and there will be glimpses from time to time I’m sure but it’s a new Nas. Grown up, evolved, sophisticated Nas that we, as cats that been there since 94, should be down with.

Now, sadly, I will say I hope to God we get those old Sony Lost Tapes but I don’t think we will ever, EVER get those. The beats are too dated and even the obvious current events that would be mentioned. Out of all that Nas’ career has been through, that would be my only disappointment... Not getting those tapes.

Just revisited "Untitled" and Nas was sharp as fuk on that album. Loved the way he stuck to the song themes on that album. "Project Roach" is just :ohlawd: .

Loved how he ended it with "Black President". He was in some sort of zone for that album.
That 3 albums stretch of untitled distant relatives and life is good is crazy good

Yup. Underappreciated as fukk. And really laid the blueprint for the conscious climate this gen.
Is it just me or is nas the most underappreciated appreciated legend by the hip hop media? Outside of illmatic. His bodies of work and impact is so underappreciated its criminal. All the artist know. They all give him his due, but hip hop media doesnt give him the props he deserves.

Thats YOUR opinion and your entitled to it. I fukks with Nasir. I only wish he would’ve dropped that Bonjour video

Eh sure it's my opinion but it's fact that the mix is half assed and those beats don't fit who Nas is as a rapper. I'm just saying if that's a 4 on a scale, you grading on a curve lol. To me a 4 is a great album that has some flaws that keep it from a 4.5 or 5. I don't see an argument for Nasir being a great album, given what we know about the process and the songs. But that's opinion I guess.

I think yall in here (me included) and other hip hop heads kind of overrate his catalog and "influence" and overall impact, in reality most people don't rank him as high as we do...but, the hip hop media and them do underrate and underappreciate him. So he's not fairly judged by either side, imo. One side says Illmatic is overrated and Takeover killed Ether...the other side says "Nasir" is a great album and "Jarreau of rap" and shyt like that is fire, lol. Both don't know how to step outside of being a fan/hater and just be objective.

Nas is by far my favorite rapper ever and it's not even close, whoever is 2nd is extremely 2nd...but objectively speaking I don't think he's a lock for Top 3 ever, all things considered. I could argue he's not a lock for Top 5 ever but my stanning won't allow me to. He has a lot of weak to average material bro, albums and singles. It's usually because the production is ass but sometimes, not often, it's him who just sounds off on certain types of songs he attempts to make, the shyt just aint good. I think a lot of people like Nas the luminary/legend more than they actually like Nas's music.

That said, when his shyt is right it's super dead right and nobody does what he does better than him.
