I don't mind hip hop is dead and he has some great records. My only problem with the album is with that title sonically is has to he a staple in hip hop and unfortunately it's not. Too me with that title, I would have sonically went back to that classic nas sound and got producers like premo, alchemist, salaam, no ID etc to make it a staple. I still enjoy alot of it though.

To me, I love the direction of the Hip Hop is dead album. Instead of going with the old school 90s flavor to say such and such era was better, he instead made it a contemporary project. I call it "poetically ironic". In a sense, he was stating his claim that new Hip Hop should sound like this. From the new flows he executed on the album, the Kanye production, Dr Dre production, even a Southern Hip Hop sounding song in Blunt Ashes. His album was in a way saying, yes Hip Hop is dead, but I'm here to resurrect it

I’ve been saying it since it dropped. Solid 4 Mics not classic but definitely a dope EP. NOTHING like the disaster it was made out to be.

I know I'm in the minority, but I think NASIR (and Lost Tapes 2) is a classic and better than Life Is Good. I liked the production a lot more and even though Nas was spitting his ass off on LIG, he was using that sped up flow where he kind of put too many words in the bar.

Doesn't seem like it, but I could be wrong. So far Mass Appeal has largely released albums from already established artists, whether rap (Fashawn) or other genres (DJ Shadow). They have a collection of new rappers too...I know they did some type of small tour a year or two ago, dunno how artist development works there so who knows where it'll go.

IMO acquiring producers is the most important aspect of running a label today. You need a room of guys who can make beats and come up with ideas that your more experienced producers can build on. That set up also allows the beat makers to evolve into producers, so if you do your job right you could end up finding the next great one. This is also a good way of acquiring management, since many beat makers sign with some small scale manager. If that person is talented you can roll them into the squad too. It's why TDE is so successful and Dreamville is doing the same thing. Your top label head guy can't be on the road with every artist, so you need managers you trust who can go on the road and keep artists on schedule.

Atlanta-based labels are really good at all that shyt. From the production to the road managers...daps to them.

Mass Appeal feels more like boutique house for lesser known artists to do their thing (Cantrell, Stro, Eazi etc). Producer wise I know Shadow is there and they got access to Dilla's vault but that stuff has been heard. They are producer friendly given the main channel had rhythim roulette though but I never looked at Mass Appeal as a label/media group thats trying to be like the other ones more distribution

my favorite joint with still dreaming

not too much fan of can't kill me but I love the live reedition

Sounds clean.. People talk about him forgetting his lyrics.
He wasn't always like that. He spit this flawlessly.
I seen him in a club in DC around this same time called Love
Dude had a bottle in his and did not fumble a single word all
night.. He brought Jadakiss out to perform too.. Past few years he's been sloppy
I think it's the new strains of weed nowadays.. So powerful and it's taken it's toll
on son lol

I love all 3 projects personally. Life is good too me is a personal classic. The lyrics, content, production all the way through is top notch. I love nasir and lost tapes 2. The hip hop media as a whole didnt appreciate those projects, so that's why albums like nasir have that stigma. I love it though.
