This is why I said Nas is rewriting his own history by focusing on Illmatic for like damn near a decade straight like that’s the only good thing in his catalog. He needs to get off of Illmatic already.

Yeah. I mean I feel like Illmatic was gonna have its own legacy unto itself without all the commemorations but it would be dope if he did something for the other albums. Of course the other thing is they gotta get writers/journalists/artists who are passionate bout those other albums as much as Ilmatic

I think with the passion for Illmatic getting the anniversaries and documentaries from the media is fueled by them wanting to prop an album that was largely slept on. A lot of it was jumpstarted by journalists/writers who were formerly of Vibe magazine and when I saw that they were behind Time Is Illmatic, it threw me because they pretty much spit on everything Nas put out besides Illmatic. Then it was like artists were coming out praising It Was Written as their influence and inspiration and they were like "we can't let that album overshadow Illmatic" and went overkill on Illmatic retrospectives.

I feel like this as well. shyt I even feel like Nas ended up forcing himself on it because if u even listen to his old lyrics n stuff it feels like he was really proud of IWW. Then mix that with his brother saying that his favorite Nas album is IWW it just seems like some bullshyt.
