An interesting read but I dont really buy some of the alternate theories

What if Nas’ “I Am...” Was Never Bootlegged? A Re-envisioning of the Polarizing Project’s Legacy

As someone who likes and even defends most of dude's discography, I feel like the narrative of him not making another Illmatic was gonna be an albatross on anything he did.
Even if I am was still intact as the double LP it was meant to be you would have still gotten those backpackers talking about "Where's Pete Rock, Large Pro, Q-Tip on this? Where the grimy street tales?" and remember this is 99, the peak Rawkus/Okayplayer so people would have been insufferable
Conversely if he doesnt have any of the commercial tracks like Hate me Now, would he have the radio stuff that you simply need to be relevant?
Maybe hes more of the NY Scarface then or something but I feel like people would still hate

Also I dont buy the stuff they saying about how DMX and Jay's career being adversely affected by Nas success. I feel like Hov was still gonna have success anyway and I say that as a Nas stan too

This is a pretty awful article and a HORRID predictor of what would have happened.

Hate Me Now is one of Nas’s most celebrated songs. I’ve seen him live four times and EACH time that song gets EVERYBODY hyped. People love that song, and the controversy from the video only added to the album’s hype. Also even if I Am would have been released as intended, Jay-Z and DMX would have been successful regardless. Jay-Z and DMX had MOVEMENTS behind them, they were always destined to achieve the success they attained. Moreover, their success was not to Nas’s detriment.

Nas and Jay-Z were going to battle regardless. It was inevitable. Even if I am were released as a double album and critically acclaimed, the single disc version was also critically acclaimed (4.5 Mics In The Source) Nas and Jay’s beef wasn’t just about music, that shyt was personal
