The media runs with that narrative ever since Jay said it. I try to tell people. The Lost Tapes is the fukkin I Am era. No way in hell did Nas fall off. He just had album complications at that time. Bootlegging of I Am forcing him to change it. Even tho even the retail release was very well received in real time. And him rushing out and throwing Nastradamus for label reasons. Most of these people dont even realize both albums dropped in the same year.

Exactly my point. The media ran with it and some sheep hip hop fans. Real fans know though.

Jay was saying whatever he had to say to discredit Nas even if his claims were unfounded. It was real easy to do because he was leaning on purists who held Nas to a super high standard or felt he sold out after Illmatic. It's crazy because Jay previously had Nas at Top 3.

I never understood how people could say Takeover was all facts and the biggest lie in the whole exchange between Jay and Nas is Jay saying Nas had been in it 10 years and that he had been it 5 years to substantiate the 1 hot album every 10 year average claim. Jay was rapping with Jaz O and Kane before Nas dropped his verse on BBQ. If that wasn't enough, Jay counted the release of his first studio album in '96 as his genesis, but counts Nas's first verse on a major album as Nas's genesis. That's unbalanced.

Low key. Ether had more facts than Takeover. Neither one is some 100% truthful diss tracks. And they both clownin. But Nas and Ether only gets the criticism for it.

Nas posted some stuff about I Am on his Instagram and it's the most I've seen him say about it since interviews around the time it dropped.

I get why Illmatic gets documentary treatment, but Nas's career as a whole needs a documentary. I would really like to see in depth information about each of his albums including Nastradamus. I mean, there's some wild, dope stories out there about each of his albums, but some of them haven't been addressed by Nas or his team. I mean, I would like to know about the following:

- "Deja Vu" was initially the sound he was going for on It Was Written. Meth and D'angelo were supposed to be kn the album.

- The concept of the I Am double album being the death of Escobar and the birth of Nastradamus

- Stillmatic supposedly being entirely produced by DJ Premier and Large Professor

- God's Son initially being an angry, vengeful album with songs like "F Hot" and "Crabs In A Barrell" where he was going at the industry and naming names

- Street's Disciple being a triple disc set with each disc representing a season (Scarlet was listed as Winter on early tracklists)

- Hip Hop Is Dead has a lot of scrapped records. Nas said he had 4 Will.i.am records that were better than anything else on the album. Game's "The Ghetto" is one of those songs. It was detailed in a Scratch magazine interview that featured Game, Nas, and Will.i.am.

- Untitled initially was supposed to be produced by Toomp, The Hitmen, No I.D., and Jermaine Dupri. In an interview, Nas had an Alchemist track too. There were supposed to be piano interludes produced by Jay Elect like "Queens Get The Money"

- Life Is Good, well he gave us all but the title track for this one according to Nas

Hi, where's the post about I Am? I can't find it
And where did you found all the things you say? Like Street's Disciple being a 3x album and Stillmatic produced only by Primo & Large Pro?

This is Nas's IG post about I Am:

I will post the other info, but a great source for obscure Nas info is Fletch's Rebel To America blog. It was also called Escobar Theory.

Trivia: "Patience" is a standout track on Distant Relatives, but wasn't a hit record. It currently sits at 105 million views on YouTube, which is more than a lot of the songs that went Top 10 from that era.

Still one of the best videos I ever saw from any genre hands down:
