How do you like living in Dubai?

Its alright, I was an expat kid so I lived here for a year when I was like 5 for a year and got vague memoriesl but its totally different now . But it is cool, theres more foreigners than locals (lot of black folks from all over not just Africa but even Uk and US now) and they build shyt to cater here and everyone's coming and opening a business so if you find friends its pretty managable.
It can be superficial, everyone trying to get seen in the right places but theres some good people. It still trying to western replicate culture rather and be organic

Its not as strict as I think the outside world gets but obviously its not European super liberal either (Theres bars, clubs with dancers, other places of worship etc) but you just gotta be careful and not totally fukk up with the law and shyt

His show last night was great. I was kinda worried in terms of how Nas would be received cause Dubai is either casual or the people who are into hip hop are younger and kinda missed his prime run, but he got an incredible reception where I was in the front and it was packed
Couple of quick side notes, the chick from Lion Babe is the sexiest thing ever :takedat:
Mos Def and Clark Kent did a surprise set on the main stage (he was doing the sweet chick after party but I guess they figured there was demand. He did the Get by remix, Oh no and both black star definition tracks ) and killed an import set
Roxanne Shante surprisingly killed it too

If you've seen Nas a hundred times like me there was nothing shocking here too much on his set. Only thing is he didnt play it aint hard to tell but he did go through the usual Illmatic-God Son era of hits and he played Adam and Eve and Cops Shot the Kid from Nasir but nothing from SD to LIG which I know he doest often but occasionally I see him bring out Black Republicans/Title Track and The Don at his shows but I get it:mjcry:

Crowd fukked with him heavy and thats all that mattered

There was a couple of funny moments, we're all used to Nas flubbing lines here or there but for some reason he decided to do full verses for songs hes doesnt. Anyway he does Adam and Eve all 3 verses and at one point in verse 2 he skipped a bar and it was first time you could briefly see he had a look of disgust at himself if you blinked you'd missed but he literally went:shaq2:
:russ::russ:

The afterparty set at Base was cool, not as packed as when Rocky was there the night before but you gotta expect that but I gotta say he kinda won the crowd over with the brief club set. Best part is he opened it with Theif's Theme which had me :gladbron: then he did the usual high profile joints (Made you Look, Got urself, message/street dreams/If I rule the world, Oochie Wally you owe me and Green played NY State of Mind and It Aint hard to tell and some bad boy greatest hits) Shout out to Joey Badass coming through again

Glad the God still got shyt moving... I want, however, to hear an update on the music. I hate to complain so early on a Sunday morning but I'm ready to hear what Nas has on tap (musically) for 2019.

Damn Breh it's not even 2019 tho
:mjlol:

I feel you tho. Real curious to see what he does on Mass Appeal now. Also curious to see if he will tour the album. He's been doing club dates for awhile, outside of the amphitheater tour with Lauren. What would a 2019 new album Nas tour look like? Who would open up, what type of venues, will he do proper promoting etc.

Was it mostly ex pats or are the locals also into hip-hop? What are the rules for alcohol?

Can you get weed at all there?

Im really curious to see how he navigates his next move. Honestly though I think we need to prepare ourselves for him kinda being in semi retirement like the Rakims and G Raps and only releasing albums maybe years apart . He took six years and he didnt release anything and focused on the business.
And while people can fault him for working with Kanye, on paper that seemed like a good move, a high profile album with an iconic producer and he can do the heavy work for the album and maybe Nas gets a buzz again. But then Ye did his antics and didnt focus on Nas album and Nas himself had all that bad press with Kelis and nobody brought the album man.

Hes gonna have to a lot to get interest in a larger space for him and while I dont thnk hes thinking about sales or anything, I also dont think he wants to put out albums nobody listens to that do like 20k and dissapear

So maybe he just gonna do the business thing and do legacy tours, he at least has grown his venues (Amptithreatres, top billing at festivals, occassional arena shows)

Bit of both, but its one of the few places where they are actually more foreigners than locals if you can believe that.

Alcohol is no problem, its very open the hotel bars sell it and entertainment events like Sole or concerts sell it. Its not like Saudi or anything at all, its a very open country (to an extent, on the surface I think people might get surprised), just dont get arrested for drunken behavior like fights or driving

Officially speaking weed is illegal, lot of locals try hashish and you dont wanna get caught with any (Usually if you arrested for drugs its 4 years unless they put on a "mercy" list during Ramadan where they let people out, so in reality if you caught with it you might do six months and deported)

Having said all that......
You do find a lot of rich arabs, russians etc with connects who do all that debaucherious shyt like Coke, pills in hotel bathrooms and even little ass weed in private, cause you know everyone gotta a connect or they just are able to skate through. Theorhetically you could probably easily get some shyt in the country but its also not worth the risk cause you might get a random search at the airport after your luggage come through which they dont normally check unless they wanna check.
Also weirdly enough, prostitution isnt really illegal or should I say cracked down upon...in fact I would argue its an open secret and I have a theory that its lowkey a big economical thing for them and obviously we know all the stories of sheikhs so they are kinda cool with the Thots coming through
But yo, be careful of them. These hoes move crazy man, you can be in a club and you see a regular fine ass girl from South Amerrica banging body , designer clothes and you chatting, you think you in there and when you about to both taxi back to hers or yours she'll turn around be like "So its 5,000 dirhams" which is like $1300:whoa: and you relalize this chick you thought was a regular girl is really an escort, this happened to a friend of someone I know. Dont worry though they are normal, fine ass women who work regular jobs there and rent thots who go out and socialize and you can hook up with from all over but you gotta watch these hoes in Dubai is all Im saying :heh:

So yeah in conclusion, Alchohol and sex is fine (Discreetly and consensual) but dont risk it with weed and drugs unless you know someone and you can handle your shyt.

Yeah but you know what, its that second week drop that I noticed.

I dont know I feel like sometimes he himself doesnt want to drop something with no buzz cause hes used to it. And as much as Im a fan of dude and hes a longevity guy who people still talk about even I gotta admit he's not as hot as he once was (though still a name and a draw somewhat)

I think we all can admit he's not as hot as he was. I don't think that buzz thing is an issue. You get a buzz by promoting. He did none.

I don't think it fukked him as much you think.

I guess, but the game is different now, since streaming big and small art*tsts dont really promote like they used to if at all. In fact I sometimes wonder if the traditional roll out helps or hurts,
