That roster by 98 was old and through, and needed a complete overhaul. Jordan played the most minutes of his career at age 35
Asking them to play a condensed 50-game schedule with an older roster is asking for a lot.
Then if they lost, knowing how prideful Mike is, he would've asked for them to run it back again. Watching a washed up team trying to regain its glory would've been sad to watch.
Then add on all the dysfunction that would've continued, it was definitely the right time
