It's not unexpected. It's made by the same dude who made euphoria. That show is unsubtle trash. Not to mention, he wrote the film in 10 days.
I'm still going to watch bc its not right to judge a movie without watching but I'm not surprised.
The reviews are largely mixed because people feel the age gap is cringey.
Age gaps like this are common though, and people usually don't have a problem with them.
This case is unique because people still see zendaya as child actress. doesn't help that she is still actively playing a highschool student in the MCU. So she kinda brought this on herself. If you want the grown roles you gotta give up the child ones can't have it both ways.
That being said, it doesn't really actress their performance in the movie. so i would probably grade this on a curve given the bad reveiws.
