Gettin' It In
Remember it was Seinfeld who told him to quit
Damn near everybody has said this since the very first trailer droppedIt might just be me but this film reminded me heavily of the video game The Last Of Us. The relationship between Joel and Elle has more than a few similarities to the relationship between Logan and Laura. The overarching plot is almost exactly the same... Joel/Logan are given the task of taking the miracle child across the United States to a mythical Eden that they're both pretty sure doesn't even exist. Both Laura and Elle are ignorant/innocent about the environment around them because of the nature of how they were raised. Joel and Logan have become jaded and hardened by the destruction of the world that they knew and loved but find it within themselves to be good father figures even though they're flawed.
The film had some specific commentary about immigration and about how America is very often not what it's cracked up to be for all the hopeful immigrants who only know it by its storied (comic-like?) reputation. At the same time it makes the argument that when people are in fear for their lives in their own land that the only humane option is to seek out another... Not sure how I feel about the politics this movie gets into. At times it seemed too on the nose and at times it didn't take enough of a clear position.
O/A it was a good film with great performances from the leads, best X men movie that I've seen by far.
