The loss of theatrical revenue has nothing to do with the point I was making. ATT/WB made the decision that they didn't want to keep their movies on a shelf for however long it will take for things to get back to normal so the decision was made to use the movies they had set for upcoming release to bump their HBO Max sub numbers. The first movie out of the gate was WW84 and it was successful in that regard.Yes it can. Part of moving WW84 and all the other movies on to day and day and date streaming was to get renewing subscribers in lieu of theaters. Sacrificing theatrical revenue in lieu of that doesn’t pan out is a failure.

But you are arguing this bizarre point that if any new subscribers don't stick around for the long haul that it's the fault of WW84. WW84 isn't a TV series with a new episode every week. WW84 was to get people onto the service; the other stuff on the service is what is supposed to get them to stick around.
Reports have already stated that HBO Max got a lot of subs solely because of WW84 and getting them to stick around is going to depend on how much people like what is offered on HBO Max. I'm not understanding why you are deciding to die on this weird ass hill that makes no sense.
you got a link for all the new subs WW84 got? Genuinely curious. Because i haven’t found anything to support the contention that it caused a flood of new subs. And I genuinely want to see the data.
I posted the link to an article about in my initial reply post:you got a link for all the new subs WW84 got? Genuinely curious. Because i haven’t found anything to support the contention that it caused a flood of new subs. And I genuinely want to see the data.
We really need to stop making judgment's on a movie's success or failure based on whether it is well-reviewed or not.
WW84's mission was to goose subs for HBO Max and based on reports it accomplished that goal. How much people personally liked it or hated it doesn't seem to be a metric that WB gives a damn about.

Cuz, you asked for this 50 mins ago and no one has provided you want you asked for
The reason is, HBO never released that number. All I’ve really saw when I googled it was “WW increased subscribers” but no specific number was provided.
Now if it is in the thread, my bad.
But you did ask for it damn near an hour ago, normally peep be QUICK to post receipts, and I’m sure you too have searched for it.
Just saying

Streaming-wise, meanwhile, WarnerMedia celebrated WW84 having “broken records and exceeded our expectations” but did not release any HBO Max subscriber data that would have confirmed — or invalidated — the efficacy of that move.
According to the streaming-service measurement and analytics firm Antenna, however, Warner can claim an important, if qualified, victory. In Wonder Woman 1984’s first three days on HBO Max, the platform registered more new sign-ups than any other streaming service has recorded over any other three-day period in the past year. It is important to note that Antenna does not yet, as a policy, publish specific subscriber projection numbers.
The key metric — subscriber retention — remains unknown. Whether customers stay loyal to the platform, or just cancel HBO Max and resubscribe whenever a new movie they want to see comes online, is anybody’s guess.

Retention is a huge metric. Hbo decided foregoing the theatrical release traditional model was worth the risk. They aren’t gonna make the budget back off new subs, so retention is kind of huge.
You dudes need to learn how to take a loss and move on... The link was posted hours ago. It doesn't matter if you liked the movie or not. The movie increased subs for HBO MAX...
Meanwhile all these other studios are sitting on content that has been finished for years now. HBO/AT&T made the right decision.
link please! Cuz AT&T is not moving like this plan is working the way you’re saying it did.
