Seeing as he was in two of the most popular movies of last year, in one of the biggest blockbusters of this year and rumored for every goddamn upcoming blockbuster without a confirmed lead actor, I'd say he is. Just because you feel he hasn't lived up to it audience wise doesn't mean that he's one of the most sought after in demand actors of today.

"Lego Movie" wasn't sold just off his name, it was a huge voice cast. "Guardians" was also an big cast with Zoe having been in way more successful movies than Chris. With Bradley and Vin as voices also having more Hits than Chris. Yet yes he was the lead but even in "Guardians" one could argue the movie wasn't sold just off him. Then now he's in "Jurassic Park" the 4th movie of a massive franchise. After this he's in "Magnificent Seven" with Denzel as the LEAD. Sorry, he's not a draw yet IMO. This movie will go a long way in expanding his brand and value as an actor.

Rumors are Disney is courting him for Indiana Jones 5. So it's not a matter of me feeling he hasn't lived up audience wise. Clearly he's done his job and his last few movies have been really successful with 3rd one on the way with "Jurassic World". But a few hits doesn't make you Draw in Hollywood yet. That's why I said "Rising" Star, he's clearly being positioned if he continues down this path. Again I realize he's been in the game for a minute but he hasn't been in the "Leading" man position until recently.

So then sam worthington is too then?

Or chris hemsworth? Chris evans?

Or you know in reality, they just happen to be in blockbusters and there name carries no real weight.

Star Lord was a star making role, what he does with it next is up to him. Same as how Thor was a star making role for Hemsworth but he didn't manage to do anything with it outside of Thor. That's a difference because with this movie Pratt is already crossing that barrier.

He's a star, when people see this trailer in theater there's always a couple that go "Oh, that's Star Lord!". He's there already, ya'll just catching up.

They are still trying with Chris but "Blackhat" really bomb. Evans has been stuck in a Captain America uniform for years now. Sam got a few hits out of the "Clash of the Titans" series but he also had several of bombs. Again having a few hits as you said doesn't make you leading man or draw. Channing has established himself as a Draw he bombs here or there but people will pay to see him in the right film. They can sell it off his name. Bradley Cooper is a Draw. I personally feel THE ROCK has moved his way up, I think "San Andres" really will established him as box office draw You have to be able to sustain it for a period. To me what Chris is doing is smart by going to the right projects. Can he keep it going? We will see. Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Will Smith, Harrison Ford shoot you can throw Leonardo in there too. Understand these people sell movies off their name.

So youre anecdotal proof that chris pratt is one of the biggest stars today is that people in the audience only know him by a role in gotg and not his actual name.

Talk to me when he opens one single movie to big numbers that isnt already apart of a massive franchise.

Chris needs to open a movie big by his own name to be considered a star. Nobody is going to see jurassic world becauae chris pratt is in it.

I agree with pretty much everything you wrote. Rock is a good example of turning your name around picking the right films. Disaster flicks always make a profit so san andreas was smart. He had a lot of duds early in his career but hes built his name up fairly well.

By that logic I guess RDJ wasn't one of the biggest movie stars in 2009 either since hadn't proven himself outside of already existing franchises like Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes.

Right. Because Chris Pratt is RDJ, a long time established actor who was recognizable to anyone before iron man and sherlock holmes.

Everybody knew who rdj was before iron man. He brought star power to the film and its a big reason why his pay day is so much larger than anyone elses.

Chris pratt is that guy from gotg. Hes being paid peanuts to be in these films.

Chris Pratt = sam worthington until he proves other wise.
