The movie might use the Joker character and the setting of Gotham City from the comic books, but it’s hardly an adaptation, During a recent chat with Empire magazine, Phillips says he’s fully preparing for comic book fans to be angry over just how unfaithful “Joker” is to the comics.

“We didn’t follow anything from the comic-books, which people are gonna be mad about,” Phillips said. “We just wrote our own version of where a guy like Joker might come from. That’s what was interesting to me. We’re not even doing Joker, but the story of becoming Joker. It’s about this man.

Todd Phillips Expects ‘Joker’ Backlash Because Film ‘Doesn’t Follow Anything From Comics’

How ridiculous is it when he said that he knew there would be some backlash due to him going out of his way to cut as many comic references as he possibly could? It's not really a move about the Joker, it's a movie about something else hiding behind the fanfare of the comic book genre. Even if you like the movie, to state otherwise is arguing against the director and even the lead actor's intent on NOT being/doing a comic book movie.
I saw the movie he can say whatever he wants to make a comic movie seem More artistic but it’s a joker movie and combines elements from the comics . It’s no worse than hank Pym being way older than Scott Lang and not inventing ultron In marvel movies

The rest of the quote says he was doing a story of becoming Joker, which is the point of an origin movie. Which is why I'm surprised at the amount of people in this thread upset that Joker wasn't robbing banks and doing crazy shyt for the entire movie.

What comic books should he have referenced for a comic book character that has no set origin?

That quote doesn't say he cut comic/Batman references.

We get a reference to Bob Kane, Arkham Asylum, Zorro and the Gay Blade, young Bruce sliding down a pole, there's a few stories that include pre-Joker being a failed stand-up comic, Joker on a talk show is similar to him being on a late night show in Dark Knight Returns,

He says it here
Todd Phillips explains the 'liberating' process of cutting comic book influences from Joker

And the point is, for the people upset at the "this isn't my joker crowd", the director, and the lead actor have both said they were not, and are not interested in the "clown prince of crime" or anything from the source material, even in his "becoming" he's still not, and won't ever be the Joker from the comics except in name.

I basically said, ‘You could take this character and put him in any movie,’” Phoenix said. “So I did a photo shoot with the on-set photographer and we made posters where I photoshopped Joker into 10 classic movies: ‘Rosemary’s Baby,’ ‘Raging Bull,’ ‘Yentl.’ If you see it, you’re like, ‘Yeah, I’d watch that movie.’ ‘Yentl’ with Joker? That would be amazing!”

:mjlol:

Instead putting him in Yentl or raging bull, they called it Joker.

Yes, he said that and then when you actually watch the movie you see that he was bullshytting and there are many references in there such as the whole talk show segment that was inspired by the comics lol

It's okay to have a different viewpoint, it's not okay to be an idiot and what backlash? The movie has rave reviews from audiences across the globe and is continuing to break records... all because of it's strong word of mouth.

That brings me to my next point. Why was this unstickied? It's still the #1 movie in most countries. :mjlol:
No mcu no sticky :lolbron::mjlit::mjpls: :troll:
