I loved the first movie but nah, I'm good.
I agree. Some movies work best as stand-alone. There's no point in a sequel because at the end John has really said goodbye to that world, and I think a prequel risks undermining the world building. One of the reasons the movie works so well is because everything about its world and John's past is given to us in small incomplete pieces that you put together with your imagination to create a full picture. We don't need to see how John pulled off the 'impossible job', we don't need to see him kill three guys with a pen, because those stories exist to explain to us current John. Showing all these past events would do nothing for the character at all.
