@ this logic thinking Haymon brought down HBO
HBO basically quit because they spending their resources elsewhere. They are not broke, far from it and if they wanted to they could have put up a fight to keep at least Arum's stable or even more. But they felt like only shows and movies is the way to go from now and no boxing included in their future. We've seen them slowly but steadily pulling out of boxing for years now.
They cut out Haymon because they felt Haymon overpaid his fighters they didn't want to give him the budget then they cut their ties with Arum too years later also because of differences about budget ideas and number of fight dates. When they broke off TR too it was only a matter of time when they finally quit. I wasn't even shocked.
It's strange to me though that many ppl seem to be dancing on their grave... granted their quality dropped in recent years but for a long time they were the best boxing provider on the market and showed many legendary fights throughout .
It's strange to me though that many ppl seem to be dancing on their grave... granted their quality dropped in recent years but for a long time they were the best boxing provider on the market and showed many legendary fights throughout 45 years. Definitely an official end of an era even though the new era started in the recent years already this is like a symbolic closing of the last one.
HBO didn't drop Haymon you idiot.....and everyone who cosigns your buffoon like post is an idiot as well
In fact HAYMON and MAYWEATHER turned down a multimillion dollar renogotiated deal from HBO because it didn't meet Haymon's terms...
which was a significant portion of the PPV revenue along with owning intellectual property rights of the 24/7 brand along with a bout by bout promotional deal with the Mayweather Promotional team
HBO was acting like one of these bad azz record labels not trying to give up leverage to an artist..and Haymon and Mayweather wasn't with that shyt
Money man: Floyd Mayweather leaves HBO for lucrative deal with Showtime, will fight May 4

Floyd Mayweather has, for several years, been the highest-paid athlete in sports, not just boxing. But Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, said the multi-fight deal the superstar boxer signed with Showtime Sports will take it to another level.
Mayweather rejected a multi-fight deal from longtime television partner HBO to sign with archrival Showtime. His first bout under the terms of the new deal will be on May 4 in Las Vegas on Showtime pay-per-view against Robert Guerrero at the MGM Grand Garden.
In June, Forbes ranked Mayweather atop its 100 highest-paid athletes list with earnings of $85 million.
"This is an enormous deal and – and I want you to use all of these words – Showtime really, really, really, really, really stepped up in what they offered Floyd," Ellerbe said. "The actual terms are confidential, but the deal [Showtime] offered, from top to bottom, was substantially better than what we received from HBO. Substantially better. They made it clear, without a doubt, that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is their guy and that they wanted to be in the Floyd Mayweather business."
Basically HBO sealed their fate by not being able to keep Mayweather because of thier own arrogance and bitterness against Haymon for basically raiding the stable of thier beloved "partner in crime" Golden Boy promotions....and putting his foot on the neck of Top Rank
You can't drop a manager who had at least 75% of golden boy's fighters on his roster as well as snatching thier president of operations the highly respected Richard Shaefer
and to add insult to injury when HAYMON exited the HBO "building" in 2013 the same year they inked that great deal with Showtime....Haymon hired legendary boxing promoter and HBO SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF SPORTS...
the great LOU DIBELLA the man responsible for pushing the TYSON brand to be infamous in the field of boxing
HBO was so offended by this move...Jim lampley and others constandly berated Dibella as being a sell out and puppet for Haymon
mane..yall just don't realize Haymon's impact on HBO's demise jumpstarted by him taking the "FACE OF BOXING" mayweather off that network really sealed thier fate......kind of like Snoop kicking down the buildings in NYC..
Now to be honest Haymon can't be totally "blamed" for HBO's demise because alot of bad business decisions was made on HBO's part on behalf of former president Seth Abraham whose two amigos Ross Greenberg and Ken Hershman fukked up the HBO brand by dropping the ball with TOP RANK's two steller fighters by failing to develop them into stars.....
something which caused Bob Arum to tell them to go fukk themselves as well
The well respected Tim Bradley
and the midwest menace TIM CRAWFORD
they didnt capitlize on Tim or Terrance simply cause they felt they didn't have the "storyline" (drama) to build upon to sell to the audience.
people love to slander Haymon as not being a "boxing man"..but it was really HBO who was infatuated with sensational storylines to market a fighter behind....
i had an off the record convo with Buddy Mcgirt and he commented on how HBO was not into the traditional meat and potato fighters once they bought Roy Jones unto thier platform....this is what kill thier brand.......they lost thier connection with the boxing purists whom faithfully subscirbed to the cable netowrk's long term commitement to delivering fights....
Kevin Kelley former featherweight champion and hbo commentator and Sam watson who worked within the HBO infrasturure both echoed those same sentiments when the subject of Showtime's being a credible rival to HBO's domination came up.
these were decisions that the new incoming president Peter Nelson realized were major flaws in HBO's decision process when he came on board in 2015 after the loss of Mayweather to Showtime......but it was too little to late...already strapped with cashflow problems by not being able to adapt to the new subscription era of streaming giants like Netflix and in the midst of a thier parent company Time Warner being taking over by AT&T ...
Nelson spend the last 3 years trying to rectify these mistakes...by trying to repair relationships with the Haymon brand
cause it's all about RELATIONSHIPS...Peter Nelson is a Harvard man just like Haymon...
And Peter Nelson president of HBO SPORTS use to work for Haymon's "homeboy"..former TIME WARNER/HBO president RICHARD PARSONS
and as Peter has stated you can't fight the "magic man"
