Better action. More engaging story. Better action set pieces. Knows exactly what it is and doesn’t feel trapped between two decades. And the wick movies normally innovate action scenes and have interesting characters across the board.

But also, these are two different action movies so it almost feels unfair to compare them anyway. It’s like comparing die hard to patriot games
how in the actual fukk is John Wick a more engaging story :skip:

those movies don't even try to have a real plot :mjlol:

Because you care about John. If you don’t care about John then the rest of the movie falls on it’s face. And caring about John transfers to everyone else in the cast. Which means there’s an investment in his relationships with Winston and Charon. So when the thing happens at the end of part 3, it sucks. This movie comes close to that with Henry and Mary Elizabeth Winestead’s character and Benedict Wong’s character, but it’s tell more than show. John wick always manages to do both. We hear of the history with these people or his relationship to them and then spend enough time in that world to see the relationships and how they work.

And the story for the John wick flicks are relatively simple. The plot can become overcomplicated as it introduces new faces and new roles and goes from one place to the other but it’s always on a straight line. John wants to do a thing and these are the people in the way of him doing it. Whether it’s revenge, leaving the life, or wiping away his debts.

The John wick flicks just have better action and a more interesting world. The continental, the high table, the gold coins, the “dinner service,” that whole underground assassin world.

Saw it in iMax Really good movie.

Great action scenes and CGI (except that last part of the movie).

That white lady was unnecessary, I would’ve preferred a black woman tbh.

Is the Film Room finally ready to come to terms with the fact that Will Smith has been on a decline for about a decade straight or is Bad Boys 3 going to have to disappoint as well? :isthatafact:

that's your subjective opinion breh :manny:

the whole shytting on will smith feedback loop has become kind of a self fulfilling prophecy at this point, and to be honest I really feel there's a racial element involved.

white A listers that haven't done anything good in a minute aren't put under the same microscope

If you're gonna tell me a movie series virtually devoid of plot is better than Gemini Man then that says more about your point of view and film geek groupthink than any sort of objective reality

you typed up all that shyt just to juelz your way into what is essentially a bald faced lie :yeshrug:

So you’re saying my opinion differs from your opinion but mine is a lie? That makes no sense :russ:

it’s your opinion that this movie is better than John wick. Cool. I told you why I feel John wick is much better. But I’m also not dumping on this movie. I said it’s okay. Not great. It has its pluses and minuses. But if I’m going to compare it to any John wick movie, it doesn’t compare. Which is a comparison you invited. So that’s the discussion at hand.

And John wick, along with this movie, have plenty of plot. Story and plot aren’t the same thing. John wick has a simpler story than Gemini man, much simpler. But the plots for number 2 and 3 are pretty damn intricate.

And that aside, a simple plot or supposed lack of plot doesn’t make a movie dope or not dope. Fury road has a simple story and a simple ass plot and it’s a dope ass movie. On the flip side, mission impossible 2 has tons of plot and it’s ass cheeks. It’s all about execution and for me, since you want to compare, John wick is executed better than Gemini man. But you can’t say your opinion is objective while everyone else’s is subjective.
