Ned was long dead when he said that :wtf:

Jaime showed Ned a tremendous amount of respect...and relished the opportunity to knock down the great Ned Stark.

The show is based on the book, but they've made changes in certain areas. If they up and turn Robb into a closet homo (you know that whole gay agenda this country can be on sometimes :smh:) you can't argue that Robb ain't homo. The book can only be used to make an arguments regarding the TV show story if it doesn't directly contradict the what the TV show says happens.

And you ask who have I seen OPENLY challenge Jaime....just one person....old ass Ned Stark, and they fought to a draw.

Ned was fighting for his life, Jaime was fukking around for the lulz.

Why would the TV producers change the lore to make Ned a beastly swordsman? What purpose would that serve?

Either the writer for that episode thought "Okay this George R. R. Martin source material okay, but I think I can make it better by writing this episode as if Ned is an elite swordsman and > the Kingslayer"

or you're extrapolating too much from that aborted duel. I think B is more likely than A.

Why don't you ask the producers that question? No point in me speculating.

That scene didn't happen in the book, right? So clearly it was a change from the book.

Question: How did Ned become the Lannister's prisoner in the books? Was he just shackled there in the streets w/o that fight?

You talking about when he was locked up in the Red Keep's dungeon? That happened just like the show, Cersei + Littlefakkit + Janos Slynt did him something dirty.

He was captured in the throne room, same as in the TV show. The fight we're talking about isn't when Ned was taken prisoner.

The duel between Ned and Jaime doesn't happen in the book, but the scene where Ned's men are slaughtered does. The difference is in the book Jaime tells him "Draw your sword so I can slaughter you for taking my brother hostage" and Ned tells him "If you kill me, my wife will have Tyrion killed" so Jaime tells his men to leave Ned but kill everyone else. Ned fukks his leg up by having a horse fall on it in the melee.

I think the TV producers changed it to make Ned look like less of a bytch, or just to have a cool sword duel on screen, which is fair enough I suppose, but I doubt their intention was "fukk the lore about Jaime being the best swordsman of his generation, in our world Ned was better in his prime".

Only thing that fight showed was that Ned was stronger. He only hit Jamie once and if the fight would have lasted 30 more seconds Jamie would have finished it. Ned could fight. He just wasnt on Jamies level, period.

My bad, forgot that wasn't when Ned was thrown in the cell.

TV show didn't change that at all....Ned's not in Jamie's generation.

Yea, like I said, y'all on Jaime's nuts.

They went toe-to-toe swinging that sword. Ned didn't overpower him, he matched him with swordplay. Old ass Ned Stark was absolutely on Jaime's level. Ned's right hand man was not on Jaime's level and Jaime made short work of that dude.

Why do y'all think Jaime was so mad at his man for interrupting the fight? It's cuz Jaime wanted the honor of besting the great Ned Stark. Jaime's man was just doing as commanded; taking Ned alive so that Tyrion would live....and for that, he got the shyt knocked out of him.

George (basically Word of Gawd) flat out said Ned was only an average swordsman, Brandon his older brother was the best of the Starks in sword fighting.

I like Ned more than Jaime but even I can see the evidence that Jaime is boss in 1-to-1 duels.

and the show is based on the book.

Ned was good but Jamie was not lying when he said only 2 men in the realm could see him. Brieene who just bested one of the BEST knights in the Kingdoms, Loras Tyrell, in the melee responded with "I'm not stupid" when Jamie challenged her. Even with a obvious reach and perhaps strength advantage. NOT to mention he sliced through multiple northern troops before he was captured AND they call him Kingslayer but how many cats you seen OPENLY challenge him? Even when Tyrion named him champion in the Eyrie when he was in jail the whole court was shook.

thats all TV evidence blood...Jamie was killin nikkas since 16 in full blown wars when Barristan, Robert and Jamie was in the crib chillin talking about first kills even Barristan lauded Jamie.
I don't think y'all can get on cats that haven't read the book for saying Ned can hang with Jamie. From what was shown on screen, they're correct in that assumption.

But at the same time even on the show they let us know that Jamie is not to be fukked with. When Jamie was captured and he challenged Robb to end the war with a 1 on 1 duel.
Robb: if we do it your way, you win. :childplease: We're not doing it your way Kingslayer.:comeon:

They are the same generation. You think Jaime is in Robb and Arya's generation? lol

In the book Ned is 3 years older, in the TV show it seems more like there's 10 years between them because of the actors they chose, but they're still the same generation. Ned had a sister younger than Jaime.

George who wrote the books, right?

We're talking about the TV adaptation, here. There's another thread for the book.

That's all I'm saying.

And, ya, the TV show def conveyed how great of a warrior Jaime was.

I said that, cuz Robert and Ned were reminiscing, and Ned said something like "if this were 20 years ago...." so clearly, Ned ain't in his prime, while Jaime is.

Doesn't really matter cuz the TV show chose to make 'em fight, and chose the result to be a draw. They could've easily chose to have Jaime shyt on Ned, the "average swordsman," and stab Ned in the leg himself....but they didn't.
