Watching the first ep
Amazing how they managed to cram all that information into one episode without being confusing. Especially when we know that the first pilot was terrible and confusing AF

One thing that bugged me is how did that deserter get south of the wall? did he climb it?

I'm going to bump these threads when I finish watching a fav seriea and starting a fav series

Think I watched this end to end at least 5x now so I'm just going to draw a line in the sand and say this is start of 6th rewatch.

I'm going to add my thoughts here about the show once I've finished this go around :myman:

(I mean obviously I like it but I'm going to make some reviews I can add to the end IMHO)

I think its time for me to either rewatch the show or re-read the books, but I have to decide on which.

Anyway...

Came in here to say one thing I never understood the criticism for was Jamie going back to be with Cersei instead of killing her. They both showed numerous times how much them and their kids mean to each other. So not only did people expect him to go back and kill Cersei but also kill their unborn child when literally all three of their other children have already died?

On what planet would Jamie doing that make sense or track for him....?

U do really notice things u wouldn't only on a 1st watch, Cersei and Jamie's relationship is at the forefront of this series from episode 1 all the way to the end

This scene is so good.

did a recent rewatch. The quality decline from season 6 to season 7 was staggering
Season 7 was as bad as 8 for me. shyt was horrendous

When I rewatched it, I just stopped after season 6.

The writing declines after season 4, but I still like seasons 5 and 6. I just skim through 7 and 8 to certain scenes.

Is she transitioning?

The red hair on the show made her look better.

She looks unhealthy here with the weight loss.

A lot of the criticism revolves around him not resembling the book character at all. I'm never gonna have an issue with changes in general but they really neutered the character for no thematic reason.

It's a holdover from book readers wanting Show Jaime to be Book Jaime. They really are different characters and Show Jaime is much more of a lapdog without much direction after season 4.

But while I agree that it wouldn't track for Show Jaime to go back to Cersei to kill her, I still think his journey back to her in the show was badly written.

1. The reason he gives is because he's hateful just like Cersei, which is what does not track for him even on on the show. I could give many examples but the one that most illustrates it is right after Jaime gets his hand cut off. The men that did it are talking about forcing fingers up his ass and making him drink piss and are having a time at his expense, and Brienne tries to motivate him by telling him to get revenge and crucially, Jaime says he does not care about revenge.

They cut off his sword hand and humiliated him and he's willing to let it go

Contrast that to Cersei after she is humiliated.

That is the major difference between them. Jaime has absolutely done heinous things, eg pushing Bran to protect Cersei and her kids, killing the Lannister prisoner to escape, but he does them "out of love" for Cersei.

Jaime summing up his reason to leave Brienne is because he's hateful like Cersei is either stupid "he's just saying this to push her away" dialogue or a misunderstanding of the character they wrote in the previous 7 seasons.

2. Jaime telling Tyrion he never cared about the innocents. What? Huh? :what:Then why did you...lose your honor.....and why ..just a season before....did you..leave Cersei to head North and.....

Yeah the show can have it:hubie:

think that killing your sister is the same as killing the guy who ordered you to kill your own father

Not mad at Jamie going byke to Cersei. More so mad about how they handled it + the pacing to getting him there after spending so much time on his "redemption" arc. In a perfect world, there's more time (and seasons ultimately) for him returning to her being fleshed out more and it all being more of a Shakespearean tragedy then how it ended up coming off on screen.
