These random stickies -And we still can’t get an official horror film thread sticky
:mjcry:

That's the admins. :hubie:
They don't want specific genre (horror, anime, etc.) threads stickied. Horror is my favorite genre, too. :francis:
Having said that the horror thread always gets stickied in October due to Halloween.

The novelty has worn off :russell:

I was bored through those 2 eps

Hawley looking :flabbynsick: the last few years. We may need to start his Holmes garden application
I can’t even say the novelty wore off....this feels like a completely different show. It’s not following the same formula of the movie/first 3 seasons. The nurse says some Minnesota-y things and the score (sometimes; other times it feels like an HBCU band) are about the only thing that have carried over.

Dropping the cop protagonist was a risk that doesn’t seem to be paying off thus far. Chris Rock is doing a fine job, and I’m feeling the heavy black cast, especially that “mulatto” daughter who’s pretty strong in her role, so I’m rooting for this to be good but like you, I damn near found myself nodding off at times. Too much is going on so they haven’t really set the stage like they did in previous seasons; in the first 3 seasons the first episode set it all up and shyt spiraled from there. I just watched a 2 episode premiere and shyt still ain’t been set up. Other than the turf war I dunno what this season will be about. Holding out hope that it will hit its stride, but even if it does I doubt it’ll be the Fargo I came to love (despite its faults).

I just watched a 2 episode premiere and shyt still ain’t been set up.

Really?

Set-up:
1) The history and traditions of organized crime in KC, with the spotlight on the tradition and fated failure of the son exchange keeping the peace.
2) The history and dynamics of the Italian Syndicate specifically, including the family dynamics now in flux and an attempt at revenge starting things to spiral.
3) Less history as they're newer on the scene but ambition and dynamics of the Black Syndicate, including their legit business angle & how they plan to take advantage of the Italian Syndicate's current situation.
4) The funeral family in debt to the Black Syndicate with her sister fugitive having Raylan kick in the door at the end which will put them right in-between the criminals and the law.
5) The wild card of neighbor nurse.

To me they set the table lovely and now we're about to eat (which is why they ended w/ the prayer over dinner montage).

I thought it was clear what I meant by that single sentence when viewed within the context of the rest of the post, but let me try to expound...

*putting in spoilers for those who are just now jumping in at season 4 on the correct advice that you don’t need to watch the previous seasons to enjoy this show*

By the end of the first episode of season 1 we had an ordinary Joe mixed up in three murders including the murder of a police chief...in a town with a near zero murder rate. Lester was tied to the unsavory Lee Malvo character and the tie to the Fargo mob syndicate had been made. shyt spiraled from there...

By the end of the first episode of season 2, we had a fukkup mobster out of Fargo fukk up and kill a judge and others and then get himself hit by a car. Pretty early in the second episode it’s established that he was hit by an ordinary Jane in Peggy who was now unwittingly thrust into the center of a turf war. shyt spiraled from there...

By the end of the first episode of season 3 we had the fukk up two bit criminal kill the wrong person and then get himself killed by a falling a/c unit...in the middle of a Minnesota winter. The brother’s loan debacle with the unsavory character had been established and things spiraled from there...

Two episodes in, and the things you mentioned don’t seem to rise to the same level as the first 3 seasons. Perhaps the fugitive sister will be the wrench or maybe the blowback from the murder of a socialite will be the catalyst that turns this from an ordinary story to a Fargo story. Hopefully so, cuz without that Fargo dust sprinkled on top, the chinks in the story become more glaring. From the nonsensical son swap (a Black man giving his son to some racist ass crackers in the 50s is beyond stupid especially given how the previous two swaps went) to the cringeworthy fart sequence before the Italian boss was killed. Stuff like that doesn’t instill faith in me, but I’m willing to see how this all plays out and hopefully it’ll turn a corner. :ld:

I hope you're talking about the OG Fargo, and not the TV series that's b*stardized the Coen bros canon with this fanfiction?

I think I’ll wait for the entire season to air before I watch it

I’ve noticed a lot of critics as well as posters on this site offer lackluster review of the first 2 eps even tho it’s early in the season...maybe it’ll play out better in its entirety

I really really enjoyed the first episode, and I didn’t really like season 3 much. Great writing cinematography and music. Very entertaining
