Mads Mikkelsen Says He's "Waiting On Marvel's Call" For DOCTOR STRANGE Role

For the first time since it was reported that was he was being courted, Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen has discussed the possibility of starring opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in the Doctor Strange movie and ultimately joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Check it out!

Exactly one month after it was first reported that Mads Mikklesen was in early talks to play one of the villains in Doctor Strange, the Hannibal star took part in an extensive MTime interview during which he addressed the possibility of joining the 2016 Scott Derickson-directed Marvel adaptation.

"I know as much as the rest of the world," said Mikklesen of his Doctor Strange casting. "So far it's been rumors, so I'm waiting on a phone call." However, should he get that call from Marvel Studios to join the stellar cast, the Danish actor admitted he would be "Over the moon." He added, "It would be fantastic to be a part of the Marvel family. I mean, it's something we all grew up with. We all have our heroes, and Doctor Strange is definitely one of the more interesting things."

As aforementioned, we still don't know which Marvel character Mads Mikklesen is being considered for if at all, but we should find out soon especially with Doctor Strange starting filming this November in London. Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Stephen Strange), Rachael McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor (Baron Mordo), with Tilda Swinton (The Ancient One), and the movie is scheduled for release on November 4, 2016. What do you think?

Kevin Feige Confirms DOCTOR STRANGE Origin Story, 'The Ancient One''s Gender, And More

Kevin Feige has confirmed that we will indeed be seeing Stephen Strange's origin story in Doctor Strange, and also talks here about Rachel McAdams' "very, very big part" in the Phase 3 as well as which gender Tilda Swinton will be portraying The Ancient One as. Check it out!

Doctor Strange begins production in November, and we should be getting more and more casting news over the next month or two as a result. IGN were able to catch up with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to push him for details on the movie ahead of that Avengers: Age of UltronQ&A we've been bringing you details from all day, and despite reports that Doctor Strange will be skipping the character's origin story, he quickly debunked that. "For some reason people sometimes talked about how we're not doing an origin story, we're bored of origin stories. I think people are bored of origin stories they've seen before or origin stories that are overly familiar. Doctor Strange has one of the best, most classic, most unique origin stories of any hero we have, so why wouldn't we do that?" Well, that puts the "no more origin stories" rumour to rest!

Asked who is going to serve as the audience's entry point into the bizarre world of Doctor Strange, Feige confirmed that it will be Benedict Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange, but said that Rachel McAdams' character may do the same. "She plays a very, very big part in the movie and represents a certain point of view of the worlds that we experience in that movie, but Doctor Strange, without a doubt, is the character we follow through the movie." Talking of the movie's supporting cast, there's been a lot of talk about the gender of The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton). Will she be a man or woman? The latter, but expect some abiguity according to the Marvel boss! "We get an amazing actress to play an amazing character, and do it in a way that's very unique and doesn't fall into any outdated stereotypes that sometimes pop up in the comics from years past. It's funny you ask 'Will Tilda Swinton be playing a woman?' and you ask it because she does an amazing job of being sort of ambiguous in terms of gender. I think you'll see us playing it in ways that she's played other characters that way. Clearly she's a woman, but it is very ambiguous in her portrayal." What do you guys think about these latest Doctor Strange details?

The cast of the Marvel movie gets cooler and cooler.

Michael Stuhlbarg, who is currently on screens as Apple engineer Andy Hertzfeld in the awards contender Steve Jobs, is in negotiations to join the cast of Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

Scott Derrickson is directing the movie, which is due to begin shooting December in London and which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Marvel’s supernatural superhero.

Already on the roll call are Rachel McAdams as the female lead, Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, as well as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mads Mikkelsen.

Strange is a formerly cocky surgeon who loses the use of his hands, and while on a last ditch attempt to heal himself, discovers magic.

Stulhbarg’s role is being kept hidden in the astral plane.

Strange will mark Stuhlbarg’s first foray into comic book movies. The actor is known for his dramas such as the Coen Bros.’s A Serious Man and HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, although he brought heart to Men in Black 3 with scene-stealing work.

Stuhlbarg, who is also portraying classic film actor Edward G. Robinson in November's Bryan Cranston Hollywood Blacklist movie Trumbo, is repped by ICM Partners.

Loved him in "A Serious Man" and was cool on "Boardwalk Empire". Wonder who he is playing. Any guesses?

Mads Mikkelsen Reportedly Onboard For Doctor Strange Movie

madsdrstrange-157816.png

The other day, The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that Michael Stuhlbarg is in talks with Marvel Studios for a role in Doctor Strange and within that story they nonchalantly confirmed that Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen has joined the cast.

That's pretty big news. In August, it was reported by Variety that Mikkelsen was for a villain role in Doctor Strange, but a month later Mikkelsen told MTime it was a rumor and was still waiting for a phone call from Marvel. Guess they gave him a ring.

Which villainous character could he play remains a mystery. Chiwetel Ejiofor is already slated as Strange’s archenemies Baron Mordo. Perhaps the dread Dormammu? Or maybe the devilish Mephisto?

By the way, Cumberbatch was spotted in Nepal filming a scene for the film. Check it out by clicking here.

Filming will take place in London, England and is expected to begin in December. Scott Derrickson is directing with a cast that includes Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, Rachel McAdams is rumored to be playing Christine Palmer, also known as Night Nurse, and Mads Mikkelsen will play an unspecified villain role.

Marvel's Dr. Strange will cast a spell on audiences November 4, 2016.
