A female stunt driver was killed on the set of "Deadpool 2" Monday morning after a motorcycle stunt went awry, Vancouver Police confirmed.

The stuntwoman was reportedly riding a motorcycle as the blockbuster superhero flick filmed in Vancouver's Jack Poole Plaza when she lost control of the vehicle, according to CTVNews.

Once she lost control, the bike was sent off set and crashed through a window of Shaw Tower, a building across the street.

"People were running on the sidewalk, the motorcycle comes flying across the street, looks like a ramp because it was in the air," a witness told Canada's Global News. "[The rider was] standing on the bike, slams into that building, clearly hit and out-of-control and clearly not planned."

The stuntwoman had reportedly completed the stunt successfully four times prior to the accident. The bike's throttle became "somehow engaged" on the fifth go-round, causing her to lose control.

She was likely shooting scenes as Zazie Beetz's character Domino, as the stuntwoman's motorcycle was similar in appearance to the one Beetz was seen riding on set last week.

The unidentified woman was a motocross expert, and "Deadpool 2" was her first film, Deadline reports.


Ryan Reynolds, who stars as the wise-cracking, acid-tongued Deadpool, offered a heartfelt statement on the woman's death.

"We're heartbroken, shocked and devastated...but recognize nothing can come close to the grief and inexplicable pain her family and loved ones must feel in this moment," he wrote on Twitter. "My heart pours out to them -- along with each and every person she touched in this world."

Officers from the Workers' Compensation Board of British Columbia are currently investigating the scene, according to police.

"Deadpool 2," starring Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin, has been filming in Vancouver since June.

"We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of 'Deadpool 2' this morning," a 20th Century Fox spokesman said in a statement. "Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time."

The accident comes just one day after Tom Cruise appeared to injure himself filming a stunt in London for the upcoming "Mission: Impossible 6."

Last month, stuntman John Bernecker died after falling 22 feet from a balcony to a concrete floor on the set of AMC's "The Walking Dead." His death was believed to be the first stunt-related fatality in the U.S. in nearly 20 years.
