So he did a lot of these same bits when I saw him last year, minus the fact he drank and smoked at that show. At that show he waxed poetic about a lot of the same topics, especially the poor whites bit. In this special he was much more focused and direct, I’d say he probably didn’t smoke or drink on stage so his points would be as succinct as possible. I didn’t laugh out loud at this as much as I did to some of his previous ones, but message wise this might just be one of his best. There’s no one with the gall to say what he did, and there’s no one with the reputation and platform to pull it off. Others in here mentioned it, but Kevin Hart and Louis CK are comedians too, but they arguably wanted to use their stand up as a catapult to Hollywood. Dave’s not like that, and since the bag is secured, and his legacy is mostly written, he didn’t have anything to lose by speaking on what he did. I respect him a lot for falling on the sword so that maybe it can start a dialogue or inspire others to speak out or push back. I kinda think too this was his call to arms on defending the art of stand up, a form of entertainment that’s kind of the last of a dying breed.
Anyway I really enjoyed this and I’m glad it’s ruffling feathers. 10/10
