I remember watching JYD as a kid and thinking this is a guy that looks like me that I could get behind.

He was high energy and charismatic, he really was the Black version of Hogan there for a short while.

I remember hearing old stories of how over he was in Mid-South and how he used to regularly wrestled in front of packed crowds at the Superdome.

He could have been a bigger star, but coke boy wasn’t going to push a Black guy as a main event attraction especially back in those days.

Going to the WWF/E was really the beginning of the end. I’m sure got a nice pay day but he was never the guy there and within a year or two he was already getting pushed down the card.

That drug habit eventually did him in.

Guys like JYD and Ron Simmons crawled, so guys like Ahmed Johnson, Big E, Mark Henry and others could walk.

Catching this Doink episode rn, the JYD was my favorite this season so far

Yeah the JYD one along with the New Jack episode are my top two so far. The fact that they broke down the issues with JYD, rather than just sugarcoating the issues, made it a must-watch. Especially concerning his problems with Mid-South and Watts being an entire prick in the making, allowing his moneymaker to leave because "n word". Imagine if Watts kept a level head and not allow racism to dictate his direction of an outdated system that Vince dismantled. JYD would not only be a long reigning champion, but probably a promotor pushing black talent.
