Drew Gulak dressed like a registered massage therapist, he's very good in the ring though
Kinda surprised that not all TSC in big on ZBJ. I still think he needs to work more on his character as I continue to feel most of his matches are exhibitions instead of an actual match, but dude is crisp as fukk and does some really cool shyt that TSC would be about.
I've always found it funny that the most "pro wrestling" Gulak as ever looked was when he was fukking Silver Ant in Chikara
I don't think ZBJ's style is something that's easy to take. It's definitely not gonna get over in front of an audience that grew up with TLC and HIAC matches. But yeah, that wasn't his best work. It really felt like an exhibition. A lot of the transitions out of a hold didn't lead anywhere and felt unnecessary. If he was trying to get over as a legit bad ass doing submissions, he should probably emulate more MMA and watch Sakuraba instead of emulating World of Sport stuff. It just felt like the wrong time/place to be doing that stuff.
That's my main problem with him. His "look at how many dope things I can pull off" gets kinda tiring after a while when there's not a lot more depth to his matches, just like workers that do amazing flippy shyt but not much else.
Now, I'll also admit that I haven't been checking every ZBJ in the past 2 years and the one's I've seen have been for the most part, really good to great. BUT I still have a hard time believing he's having a match he wants to win instead of an encounter he uses to showcase his cool shyt and not much more. Maybe it's something about his look and facial expressions more than his work because I have a similar problem with Timothy Thatcher but the last 2-3 years Thatcher has gotten better at emoting and showing that he's more than a WOS cosplay wrestler.

Probably the worst round of the tournament so far. Full Sail exposed themselves again cheering on ZSJ in the opening but quickly grew dead as they failed to grasp the technical wrestling because they only want flippy indie shyt from this, and it certainly didn't help this was a glorified squash match that was only supposed to show off ZSJ's skills without any kind of storytelling or psychology. One only has to look at the Mendoza/Kendrick match to see how much that makes a difference, dudes went from being 'ehhh...' on Mendoza to cheering for him when he found the strength to hit that Coast To Coast.
Matter of fact, Drew Gulak suffered from that same problem. Too much emphasis on showing off without actually showing out.
