Partison politics has become so toxic that people don't even hold the side they perceive to be their side accountable anymore. Donald Trump is easily the worst president in my lifetime yet the republican party is satisfied with him overall. Brazen corruption and no real desire to do the actual job and they just look and go yeah more of that.

The electoral college is so broken that under 50,000 voters could have overwritten the will of over 7 million voters. America made it through this time but Trump laid the blueprint and next time we probably won't be so lucky. If Trump was even half way competent it would have been the end of democracy in the US.

Conservatives have always had contempt for democracy. It's why they have stood against every effort to expand it, from the repeal of poll taxes and tests, to women's suffrage and abolition of race based voting.

That's why you're seeing conservatives eschewing the constitution in favor of loyalty to one man, and openly advocating for secession, sedition, insurrection, and martial law.

When I look at the ugly aftermath of the Ohio election in 2020 - the one thing that stands out and that touches on what brehs saying upthread - the few counties that either held or swung toward Biden are where?

In the most educated, most prosperous, most increasingly diverse areas. The ones that make the big majority of our GDP.

But we can't outvote the rest of the deep red wannabe Stars and Bars cletuses here. It's been that way for a long time, but now it's worse than ever.

You can't fix stupid, and eventually if you can't avoid it, stupid kills you. It's like a sports team to them though. There's no morality or principles to it simply the side they cheer for and the rival they hate. The policies these politicians enact impact all our lives. These fools need to start paying attention to what's getting done instead of blindly cheering for a side.

It's a huge moral thing for them. They believe their side is the side of God, and God can't be wrong. They love the policies of the GOP. They love them because they hurt the people they don't like. It's not about the country, it's about visiting cruelty on the "other" and enforcing their reactionary social agenda.

As long as most white people vote based on cultural grievances nothing will substantially change in this country. Even worse, some non-white people also vote based on cultural grievances too (especially certain Latinos like Cubans & Venezuelans).
