I dunno why the country favors the south electorally when the blue states essentially props up the rest of the country. It’s the country can’t sustain this.
This country has sustained this for over 200 years. The south (and Midwest) has always been less populated, current migration patterns of America show more people leaving the south than coming in with the exception of Florida (Old people), Georgia (Blacks and Asians), and Texas (Hispanics and West Coasters), and economically weak with the exception of exploitation of Black Americans through chattel slavery or sharecropping.
The real problem is the states that are so called “Purple States” (Ohio, Maine, Pennsylvania, Colorado) electing GOP Senators (and in their state governments) allowing for the southern and Midwestern Senators to exert such control. It’s why it’s so important for Texas/Georgia/Florida to turn blue. Toomey, Collins, Portman, and Gardner aren’t the standard bearers for the party, but nor do they cause many problems. They also don’t have controlling positions in the Senate either. Those go to safe, small deep Red state Republicans. Meanwhile, you have to rely on Joe Manchin to have a backbone on nearly every vote.
It comes down to this: Black people’s lives depend on voting. Hispanics attempt to pretend like it doesn’t penalize personally, until it truly does. White people feel like they will be okay regardless. And that explains poor voting decision-making. So it will continue to sustain until you get a Great Depression level event where white people are dying and losing their livelihoods in massive numbers. And the GOP knows it, so they keep it at the brink as much as possible while obstructing any Dem attempt at pulling us away from the brink.
Hence, the system is broken and we can’t fix it until white people get their shyt together and start voting like they want to fix problems.
