What happens is the next republican can just write a new executive order to overturn it. Trying to do stuff through congress is the smart move and makes it harder to overturn when the republicans have power.

They can’t reimpose loans once they are forgiven. Biden just doesn’t want to forgive loans.

The Dems rejected the only candidate who was going to forgive loans and push M4A.

The American people ain't shyt and our politicians reflect that.

If you think the Republicans and the banking industry wouldn't fight any EO trying to forgive student loan debt with nuclear type weapons you tripping.

I'm not convinced Biden shouldn't try, but try gaming it out and thinking what's worse - issue the EO, it gets tied up for years, loses in courts, disgusting millions owing billions while making Dems look weak? Or put it in Congress where even with 50 Senate seats if we're lucky we can at least make the Rs look worse quicker and score a faster actual win or publicize the obstruction?

Because only one thing is sure, and that's with Sedition Party control of the WH AND congress this is never happening. :snoop:

Governing is hard. Easier to be a Chaos Agent, which is why the other side thrives way too fukkin much.

If he forgave even 10K, he would energize young people to actually show up and vote in the midterms.
Exactly. There is no reason for him not to forgive 10k of student loans via executive order, fukk bipartisanship
Extend the moratorium on payments and interest + forgive debt... he'd be one upping Trump

i hope he does the 10k

i mean you all know what my proposal is. cut everyones current balance by 50 percent, and kill all interest on current and future loans. sizeable relief now, and future generations never pay any interest so they win too. opposition from republicans is greatly lessened because its not "free", people are still paying but its half their balance gone

maybe in 22 :yeshrug: dems should run on it before midterms, or biden should executive order it before midterms

There is no downside risk in forgiving student loans via executive order. Dare the republicans to use nuclear weapons to block it and let them observe their power diminish nationally.

The news rwport said he would look at 10k instead of 50k
Funny thing is, since Biden is a creature of the Congress being in the US Senate for over half of his life, his pledge for $10,000 in forgiveness comes from the HEROS Act which was the $3 trillion stimulus passed by the House in May.

Now, you have half a dozen black Congresswoman putting a resolution to forgive $50,000 in the House and we know Warren/Schumer have that in the Senate.

If both GA seats flip, then the Dems may slip in some provision like this in a stimulus that can pass via the once in a year measure called budget reconciliation that only needs 51 votes to pass in the US Senate.

I just explained what the potential downside is. Young and uninformed Dem leaning voters aren't gonna be satisfied by performative EOs like Trump's army of cletuses who never hold him and Rs responsible. They'll be watching their debt balances and when the shyt doesn't go down and they get no guarantee it will they'll be worse off than where they started from unless the cases in court to preserve the EO is airtight. And you and I ain't qualified to say that.

I’m tired of Democrats playing scared. Trump reallocated got damn military funds for a useless border wall.. Democrats need to force Republicans to defeat them by showing how evil they are instead of not doing something because they feel it will fail in some mental projection. Republicans get away with their nefarious ways because Democrats never force their hand
