It crazy to see how some of Bernie supporters are ripping him apart. I understand the criticism because Bernie didn’t do what he needed to do to win. However, I don’t know why they are surprised that Bernie endorsed Biden. Bernie always said he would support the Democratic nominee. Also some of you anti Bernie people need to admit that y’all were wrong. I told y’all that Bernie wasn’t trying to sabotage the Democratic nominee. Y’all unfairly put dirt on his name.

Yup. Like @No1 said, its best to stay off Twitter and these toxic places.

Like I said before, I'm seeing more nuance on my Facebook...

In hindsight, Bernie's whole campaign should have been centered on the south and the black vote. A multi pronged approach and using the organizing infrastructure and the money on winning the black vote. It may not have worked of course but that should have been the center of the strategy.

I mean, he did worse with rural voters this time too. It’s like he got pulled into running the same campaign as Warren by her presence. He was trying to match her and solidify the left for a lot of the race.

All this is true, but I think the biggest issue is that he just failed to convince people that he could beat Trump. :yeshrug:

There are a lot of people who like Bernie more but voted Biden anyway because they're scared of losing to Cheeto.

In hindsight, that was the mistake ..

Yeah, that was supposed to be the center piece.

It’s strange because that’s was part of his appeal for me. While fully understanding that Trump is an existential threat(one of a few leaders that falls under this) I never liked how Biden was pressing the fear buttons as a way to sell the vote. Bernie strictly brought up issues that needed to be put on the table.

One thing I’m wondering is if the cynicism towards govt developed of the years might’ve made Bernie look like some idealist pie in the sky type candidate vs the business as usual approach of Biden. I could see people being convinced that Bernie wouldn’t even be able to make his goals happen and he’d prolly lose due to his more radical policies. That, and the other fact that Obama ran on a “Hope/Change” platform that once he got into office didn’t deliver nearly as much as voters hoped for.

There needs to be a great deal of repair work done with the American voter if we want to see progressive ideas rule the day.

In hindsight I think the "socialist" label generally hurts Bern more than it helps him. A lot of people just don't think somebody who openly calls their self a socialist can win in America.

The media has been fearmongering about socialism for decades, especially to older folks. Bernie might've been better off running on the same platform without actually calling himself a socialist.

Agreed, he made himself a much easier target for opponents and media alike. Although I think socialism on the whole might get a makeover in this country in due time right now isn’t the moment.

Had he presented himself as an otherwise “normal” Dem but presented some socialist ideas on some eureka moment type shyt he would’ve stood a better chance. Had he not already had a long track record he might’ve served himself a bit better by being a Trojan horse.

I don’t even think that’s something Bernie could’ve solved himself, it’s mostly on the media painting that picture to the people who won’t go out and get information themselves and those who’d rather be spoon fed.

Like I mentioned last page I think we can turn this thread into the official leftist primary thread. So supporting Rashida is a given. Here are some others worth taking a look at imo:

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch any suggestions?

Did a bit of discussion on Bernie dropping out (this was prior to endorsing Biden) on the podcast this past week. We've been trying to adjust the format for the current situations. So we got a couple of my friends to call in and talk about their living situations (I think it's interesting because one of them left his crib in Jersey City where COVID was spreading heavily and the other left his crib because his GF is a nurse and didn't want to risk catching COVID and giving it to him).

At 45 mins though, we do a long post mortem and vent on the situation. Full disclosure, I think it's the weakest part of the episode this time around. More frustration than value. But we get some less involved heads to talk about their views on Cuomo, Biden, Bernie dropping out and what the Democratic Party will look like going forward. By 55 mins, I go in on how I think the current trajectory with the virus and the economic situation we're in will leave a lot of angry people up for grabs to anyone who offers them relief. Pure speculation but I think the Dems will move left on some issues off the back of a lot of frustrated unemployed people heading into a general election...then we clown conservative conspiracy theories floating on our timelines for a little bit.

Give us a listen fam. It's not all political as a show, but I always load in lefty ideas where I can and I've been making sure to fit in Bernie, Progressive Politics and lefty theory pretty much weekly (idk who you all are clicking but our analytics say yall have really been checking for it which is inspiring and I'm grateful fam).

This is a great idea. Buttar is probably my favorite person running, unfortunately he picked the most unlikely person to unseat imo. But I feel like he's one of the best voices I've heard of the newcomers if not the absolute best.

I haven't checked on what's good with Cori Bush, but I remember really liking her as well.
