Oddly enough, while their platforms are extremely similar, their supporters seem to be pretty different. Pointing out the similarities between the two and showing unity is good for progressive causes and could position one of them to take a leap should the other drop out which polling hasn't indicated would happen yet. Strategically speaking, I think this is smart (especially if there's a contested convention).

Sanders and Warren voters have astonishingly little in common

There's some generic off base speculation in the article but the numbers on second choices is the curious part.

Yeah, the polls show that most sanders voters have biden second and warren voters have harris second. Strangely, they're not really competing for the same demographic at this point.

Their platforms are only similar on the shallowest of levels.

I can understand Warren voters second choice being Kamala on some 'first woman president' shyt. But who are these Bernie supporters with Biden second? I guess it is a 'best chance to beat Trump' shyt? Still he is one of if not my least favorite Dem candidate. He only beats Ryan and Delaney in my book. lol

Her delegates will go to Biden or Harris. Her entire campaign is designed to stop Bernie.

Yeah, I know my Progressive brethren are on this wave she is a plant. But her and Bernie say they are friends and talk often. I'm thinking if she was bullshytting Bernie he would see thru it. Maybe she is pledging loyalty to the establishment as well to get them complacent and then gives her delegates to Bernie. I'm hoping for the double cross. :mjlit: We'll see when the rubber meets the road. If what you say does indeed happen I'll curse her name then.

That is true based on polling

I was talking more specifically about the biden/bernie vs warren/harris splits

Sorry for not being clear

Not exactly sure, the polls I saw didn't say specifically how they choose their second choice. Warren's makes a bit a sense to me given the her voters demographics, but I have no clue about Bernie's. :hubie:

Strictly speculating, I think it's just name recognition without knowing the candidates. A plurality of Biden voters listed Bernie as their second choice also when I looked. I think that's because of a lack of actual familiarity with candidates beyond just basic recognition of the name. This is also why I'm skeptical of the idea that Bernie's hit his ceiling because of his name recognition is already at peak. There's really nothing else I can think of to explain it besides maybe electability but the messaging across media platforms has always been that Sanders isn't electable, so I'm even uncertain on that one.

They met right before she announced and last time around he waited until she definitely wouldn't run before he threw his hat in. Right now, she's doing a great job of communicating certain concepts that Bernie hasn't always been able to get to (that Wealth Tax of hers was in Bernie's 2016 white paper for example and I've always liked it but it didn't get shine). If they play it friendly, they can emphasize different aspects of similar policies that all build toward the same goal. I think they realize that, especially with the amount of knowing glances these two were trading as centrists would try to attack. It was on some "you wanna take this or me?" tip.

Yeah, that's what I'm basing my thinking on. By all indications they are on the same team. She was also on the panel for Bernie's Oligarchy Town Hall I watched last year.

It's early, he's waiting until the field is thinned before making his differentiation to Warren obvious. Right now it's smart to lean on each other and run a relatively synergistic campaign until more people drop out.
