Not feeling it. There’s stuff I liked (zombie horse
, zombie tiger
, the action) but since he clearly wasn’t making a fun zombie action movie and was actually making a story about a father and daughter dealing with their grief and fixing their relationship, I wasn’t satisfied in the end.
Giving characters out of the blue emotional angles to play right before they die, weak characters for the most part, twists for the sake of twists, and a movie that wants to be this “fun movie” while also being a serious movie not just about the family, but the southern border as well and our current immigration system. You gotta thread the needle to do that and this movie doesn’t. It wants to have its zombie cake and eat it too.
For a movie that wants to have emotional payoffs for a lot of characters, it does none of the work to get there and just feels unsatisfying in the end. Meh
