I was concerned about how they wrapped it up, but they did an impressive job here. I still think S2 needed 3 more episodes so the pacing could have eased itself into more world building. Only slightly prefer S1 to S2 just because of pacing both were terrific.
Will post more of my thoughts later since I watched S1 for the first time right before S2 ended. The character writing is easily the best part of the show 10/10 in that regard easily.

The only thing off about all of this is the insistence on trying to shoehorn musical interludes every other minute.

dont know. Bessa is a show made character(although they did add the champ to the game). Seems there is more to it. Part of it is the hexcore stuff but Mel mustve figured out something else too, which is why she attacked the shadow or w/e at the end.
