Back home from being out of town and using it. Battery life is better than my 7 Plus, partly because it's a newer phone but mostly because Apple killed the battery with iOS 11. Been dropping 7-10% on it just from standby since September. Anyway the X lasted all 5 hours it took to get there with GMaps and bluetooth on and still had around 25% left. I checked out the hotel with 88% and got the 20% warning with about an hour to go on the way back. I'm satisfied.
Apps that haven't been updated yet stick out like a sore thumb (Google Maps). It's basically a 4.7" iPhone when you're in them, but it seems like everyday I have updates for my apps that support it so hopefully it's sorted quick. Still haven't noticed the notch that much for those with full screen support. I think it's time to find something else to complain about, probably why everyone's moved onto its price.
The only reviews I've really seen was leading up to it coming to my doorstep, haven't paid attention to anything since actually using the phone, which is how it should be. I recommend the phone. I had the iPhone 5 (only 7 days before I went to the Note 2), Note 2, Galaxy S6, 6S, 6S Plus, 7, 7 Plus, Galaxy S8+, went back to the 7 Plus and now the X. Haven't had a Note 8, you can say I had 90% of one with the S8+ and I'm taking the X over them. Out of all those phones this is the first one where I don't feel like I'll be upgrading the next year. And I know that my $1000 will be supported longer through updates with Apple so that means a lot. It's probably a year to 1 1/2 years ahead of Samsung & the others with Face ID, and with Samsung putting the fp scanner in weird places they'll 86 it for facial/iris scanning soon. And it's years ahead of Qualcomm and Samsung in the benchmarks with the A11 chip, it'll run through apps like butter for years. As for next years iPhones, I see them all having a notch with a couple more color options, a 6.2" version, couple bells and whistles for the camera that I won't use, and slightly improved Face ID. I'm alright on the next few Xs & Galaxies.
And as far as price, it is expensive. Samsung.com is selling the Note8 for $950 not including tax, basically $1000 all said and done. Galaxy S8+ that came out 7 months ago is $825 w/o tax. Then you've got $849 for the 64GB Pixel 2XL, $949 for 128. I remember Google used to sell flagship phones that were cheaper than competitors, now the phone they sell gets screen burn-in within days, is poorer in screen quality compared to iPX/Note 8 and costs $1000 too. All the big boys have crazy prices and most would do it if they had the consumer base for it, but most people don't care about LG, Sony, Oneplus.
