thats some smooth vocals....Beautiful. I think i might download their slbum from itunes. Were they big in the 90s?
Yes amazing. Wish they put out newer music too. As far as popularity in the U.S. in the very very late 90s and early 2000s. Of course the fact that they were singing in French didn't necessarily help, but the fact that they were singing soulful music and were Afro-French women did help, along with the "Sweetest Tabou" (their most popular U.S. track) with Black Thought. That was a familiar English song with a well known rapper. They did get the the Vibe/Source, etc magazine blessings I believe at the time too, as far as being publicized.
Basically, they were the Afro-French answer to the uber strong Neo-Soul/Soulquarian movement of the time http://www.thecoli.com/threads/the-soulquarians-appreciation-thread.49851/ .
So basically in the 90s/early 2000s, visually yes they showed some videos on BET or CollegeMTV, but radioplay at least in North Carolina, not at all, and probably most places in the U.S.
But personally, I dug them from the beginning just of off concept, African French women singing soulful music with Motherland stylistics...
Speaking of late 90s early 2000s, Talib Kweli also did a track with them
