If you're going to throw a bag at one of the current S16 coaches, why not Chris Beard? No one's goal is to be at Ole Miss. Why not at least see if Dusty Will listen...his extension gives him $4.8M/year base, you don't think he'd hear you out for $6.5M?

Beard's a Southern dude and he probably feels like Ole Miss saved his ass after damn near losing it all at Texas so he might just hang out there for a while.

Willard probably still has his tri state connects back when he was at Seton Hall, so he knows the landscape.

More I think about it, and after chatting w/ the Maryland brehs, the less I'm sold on Willard. He's having the best year of his career all of a sudden and it's more due to their roster than any outstanding coaching. Yes, he assembled it, but he has a top 5 pick playing and should probably have won more games.

IDK...maybe I'm naive or an idiot (what else is new?), but I still think this is just some very, very, high-stakes (and very, very, poorly timed) gamesmanship on his part. Feels like a lot of sound and fury, but eventually they'll meet at least halfway and get the deal done.

That said, the fact that Villanova still hasn't made a hire - and doesn't seem to even have any other names rumored - makes me think twice about that, at least a little.

Guess we'll see. Can't stress enough how jacked up the timing of all this is, in any case.

Yes Nova has mad bread to spend on basketball, they spent out the ass on transfers for the 2023-2024 season(including a transfer from Maryland, Hakim Hart) but Kyle Neptune fumbled it, so the boosters didn't spend as much this past season because they knew Neptune wasn't the guy. Even with that said they did spend alot this past offseason to retain Dixon, bring in Woogla Poplar, and also were gonna spend alot to bring in Max Shulga but Shulga couldn't get admitted to Nova so he went back to VCU. With the way Willard is moving all shady during a tourney run I'd be skeptical of Nova if I was them, and it an't like his resume is all that deep. His brightest spot on his resume is bragging about a "what-if" Seton Hall team that we never got to see in the 2020 tourney that got cancelled.
