Crazy compared to other sports what a slap in the face

In 1997-98, Joe Sakic earned $16.45 million, the highest total ever made by a player in a single season. Sergei Fedorov's deal in 1997-98 was close at $14.5,

Lowkey, NHLPA is almost as incompetent as the NFLPA. How they were dumb enough to lose a whole season just to cave to a hard cap was just course 101 on how not to negotiate a CBA. Every player now and probably until Bettman is gone will pay for that mistake.

if they were doing the hard cap they should have fought for like you can have two players sign for whatever but only count for this amount of the cap kind of like the mls dp.

So a guy like ovechkin could make 25 mill a year but would only count for like 12.5 mill of the cap

Or at least have a upper limit tax like in NBA and MLB. Let the Leafs, Rangers, Bruins, etc spend over 20-30 million over the cap. But the tax charge is gonna be 60 million or something. Even those teams wouldn’t want to pay that tax every year. The fact that teams had to give up picks to get a 3rd team to facilitate trades is a embarrassing look on the league imo
