I have been distracted from music for a while but I'm trying to keep up on the critically acclaimed stuff at least
I'm a big fan of the new Julien Baker album, it mostly piano and acoustic songs about depression and anxiety and such. She is very talented and has the chops to release a classic one day
Time for the top eleven (11) of 2017. Didn't get round to St. Vincent, Bjork and Fever Ray and a couple of others. Here are my faves anyway, no order. Includes some Hip-Hop:
Hopefully the 2018 thread can be more active....this one really died mid-year.
With that being said, here is my complete year-end list. Drum roll
Album Of The Year
Lorde "Melodrama" -- It took the entirety of 2017 for this to slowly creep up my list and become my album of the year. But quite frankly, I don't know why I didn't latch onto it immediately. Amazing production and songwriting. Creative yet accessible. The best pure pop album since Beyonce's Lemonade and actually probably better than that album. While it doesn't quite carry the emotional resonance for it to eventually contend for my top albums of the decade, it certainly will be near the top of the pop-list.
Runner-Up
Fleet Foxes "Crack Up" -- This album spent the majority of 2017 at the top of my list and was my only album rated 9.5....but it is mood-music for me and I haven't found myself in the mood in quite a while so I knocked it down a peg. Honestly, when I look back 5 years from now, there is a chance that I will put this one back on top. This is Fleet Foxes best work in my opinion because their previous albums grow tiresome on me with the constant barrage of soaring melodies. I appreciate the quiet moments here, intertwined with the impossibly beautiful soaring melodies and creative musicianship.

Has anyone listened to Fleet Foxes album that was released last year? If so, what did yall think of it? I'm running it back again for the second time. The first time, it didn't grab me. I know it had good reviews by the critics and such.

Oh. My bad. I didn't notice it. But I just got done with my second listen of the record. I think I still like "Helplessness Blues" over it for right now.
