I had to hold back a bit on commenting on the Tame Impala since I am a Lonerism stan and don't want to let change in sound turn me away too quickly

I expect bands to evolve, so I didn't want a Lonerism Pt. 2 but I didn't expect this sound

My early impressions are mixed, but mostly positive and some very positive

The one thing I'm having trouble with is that I don't know how well the heavy reverb on the vocals is working inside this sound....but it took me a couple spins to get used to the constant phasing on Lonerism so I will let it slide for now

Songwriting I think its a step back from Lonerism, but still a step up from Innerspeaker so that pretty solid

Sound mixing he has finally hit his stride. No crummy mixes that plague the EP and first 2 LPs

Overall I'm digging it a lot but need to give it more time to see exactly how much

I just spun it back to back and it was :banderas:

Definitely better with more listens

Damn, I'm really starting to feel this... I'm hoping he just plays this full album at Lolla in a few weeks... I just saw them in May lol, I want to see how this hits live

I haven't tripped in ages, but I've been holding on to a couple mints for some time... Gonna bust them out for the show :obama:

The mixing on this is just perfection and his drums are always on point. Just a well constructed album.. Great steady sound vibe throughout, I'm really liking it right now, it's a complete departure from Innerspeaker and a big step away from Lonerism.

I've had Tame Impala on non stop since it leaked. My favorite song is "Yes I'm Changing"

But some of it is sorta chintzy to me, particularly the synths of some of the songs. But it's cool, I still like it.

My personal favorite is "The Less I Know The Better".........the thing is its gonna be one of those albums, that my favorite song will change from time to time. Currently listening with a pair of Audio Technicas on.......Im thoroughly enjoying the experience. Its hitting more for me cause I'm dealing with a lot of personal stuff (2 deaths in the family, and a breakup)....this is seeing me through it

The mixing on the first 2 was ehhh.....I can't imagine how godly those first two albums would sound remastered (although I do wonder if the mix was intended to be that way)

I know what you mean. It was more 'chintzy', as you put it, when the songs were released as singles (except Let it Happen, that struck highly with me right away) and on my first listen.

Upon repeated spins that feeling went away and I really, really enjoyed it.

Album obviously came from his soul a bit more this time. Definitely tells a story. Like @Air Nikes N Hats said, would probably hit even harder if I had some personal stuff to relate right now (been happily together with my girl for years now) but I still know these feelings well.

Real dope effort, can't wait to see his next step. Hopefully he doesn't wait 3 years this time, most of the greats have been able to turn out an album every year or two at their peak.

Honestly, I've said it before on here in different threads. There's no doubt in my mind that Tame Impala is going to be one of the biggest bands of our generation.

Hopefully he doesn't wait that long.....but he's had a solid year so far......I thought the Pond album was well done, the placements on the Mark Ronson are the clear highlights of that project, and now this.....Currents will make him a household name, and he will be in a large demand. I just hope he doesn't wear himself too thin (doubtful, but there is always the chance.......I will give it to him, he has the knowledge to reinvent himself every so often)

That new Beach House though :mjcry:

I heard the radio rip first and didn't really know what to think of it, but hearing the studio version on repeat several times

My reaction went from :dwillhuh:
