This whole messaging shyt is a mess man.
I like the Chrome extension for Hangouts, but honestly, something like this has to be native to Android for it to make people really even know what it is. People are going to get tired of hopping from messaging app to messaging app.
All my nikkas are in a Groupme chat right now, why would they switch to this shyt?

CONFIRMED Hangouts + Google Voice already integrated
I just got a call from a 800-number to my GV number. My phone rang but so did the Hangouts app on Chrome. I answered in a Hangout the same way gTalk used to work.
UPDATE
I thought for a minute there that the 800-number called my regular cell number because I couldn't find record of the call in the GV app. It's there now tho. Thanks +Chris Fink for verifying the behavior.

Technically, this is better than Groupme because of the video option alone.
My point is...
People are used to the apps they're using already. People aren't just going to start using this shyt because I tell them to. Especially when it serves the same purpose as other messaging apps.
I'm using it.
My thing is, Google needs to make this their standard messaging app and integrate it from the jump in all of their new phones. If they do that, it will take off.
