Vampire Weekends Step is :lawd:

Someone else please drop your imlression on this strokes album. I feel like I am living in a twilight zone, I have been reading some mildly positive response on it yet I was cringing during almost every song. I need to know whether I am going crazy or I need to give it another chance or what

off of first listen, i really like it.
hearing the two songs off it (liked All The Time straight away, hated then loved One Way Trigger) and reading stuff like this...

[ame]https://twitter.com/jenny_stevens/statuses/298417315622567938[/ame]

didn't know what to expect.. but its just an enjoyable album..nothing more, nothing less.

way your talking about the cringing and being surprised about the positive response is how i'm feeling towards that Autre Ne Veut album.
i like most of the beats but the singer is just corny as fukk to me.

i can see how some wouldn't like Comedown Machine though and everything they do after their first two albums are bound to be met with :ld:

I just listened to the new Strokes album again and pretended that it wasn't a Strokes album and I think I kind of like it actually. Solid 7/10

'Is This It' hold a special place for me, as it was one of the albums that really got me away from Hip Hop and into rock music. Because of this, it is hard for me to listen to any other Strokes album because they don't compare. I guess I just need to learn to shut that off and appreciate the newer stuff for what it is.

One Way Trigger is still a W.O.A.T. song though

Pardon my ignorance, but how do you post a gif? Do you just use the img button and paste the link? I tried doing that in another thread and it didn't work.

I just manually type the
tags, so it's
. but yes that insert image button does the same thing

you can see how anyone embeds or formats anything on this site by quoting their post & checking the text, that's how I first embedded soundcloud links on here

12 more days until The Flaming Lips new album. :ahh:

Nope, it got pushed back to April 16th

That being said...apparently this thing leaked a while ago as a transcode. How did I not know this yet? May not be CDQ, but still worth a listen so I am downloading right now. Looks like early responses are :whoo:

OK, just finished first listen of The Terror :lawd:

Trying not to overreact, but this is going to be an album of the year contender. Definitely not what I expected...I knew it was supposed to be "dark" but this is a slow, ambient, minimalist piece of work that just begs to be listened to in the dark while it storming outside. Intoxicating and drowsy at the same time, it will be hard not to fall asleep while listening to it. That is actually a good thing by the way, my point is that it seems so ethereal that it will be easy to just get lost in the record and all your thoughts go away and your brain can't help but shut down. The mark of a great album to me...when I put on some of my favorite albums at night in bed I am usually asleep before track 2 ends.

Would I have liked more "pop" melodies? Normally I would say yes, but this is an ALBUM in the truest sense of the word. A defining theme and sound from beginning to end. Reminds me of Kid A in its structure, although you won't find anything like Idioteque or National Anthem here...it's more like How To Disappear Completely played 9 times in a row. Opening track and the second half of the closing track are the only songs that break this mood.

To anyone that downloads it, remember that "Sun Comes Out Today" is just an iTunes bonus track, it isn't part of the album. That is important, because it sounds NOTHING like the rest of the album and would have ruined it had they included it. Of course, it was never the intention to include it.

______________________________________

So upon first listen, my current "albums of 2013" list needs updated and looks like this, but The Terror may jump up to the 9.5 range after a couple more listens, depending on whether my excitement drops:

9.5 or above
None

9.0 or above
The Flaming Lips "The Terror"
Youth Lagoon "Wondrous Bughouse"

8.5 or above
Autre Ne Veut "Anxiety"
Local Natives "Hummingbird"
Foxygen "We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic"
My Bloody Valentine "MBV"

8.0 or above
Beach Fossils "Clash the Truth"
Iceage "You're Nothing"
Grouper "The Man Who Died In His Boat"

My favorite album of the year so far I think is The Strokes to be completely and utterly honest.

But I say that knowing its not going to be the best album of the year by a long shot, but it's definitely one that I've enjoyed the most. (I'm a big Strokes fan, and I like the weird 80s sounding shyt they try)

Foxygen, Phoenix, Girls Names and Autre Ne Veut though deserve shout outs.

as someone who wasn't a Wavves fans like that and only listened to King Of The Beach a few times enjoyed his new album more than i expected in the two times i've i listened to it.

with this cold weather been playing Wild Nothing's Nocturne, DIIV's Oshin and the newest Beach Fossils album.
funny how with their debuts Wild Noting and Beach Fossils albums were very summery but their follow ups suit the weather months of fall and winter.

maybe it's just me though...and i tend to group them together because i listened to both of their debuts for the first time together when they first came out.
