Which RnB album was better?? Miguel and trey came close but not better not channel orange

golden girl
rich kids
thinking bout you
sweet life
sierra leone
pink matter
bad religion
pyramids
pilot jones
crack rock

you are bugging

Miguel> Frank Ocean... like i said, NOBODY will say Frank Oceans shyt wasn't good...cause they dont wanna get into any shyt with GLAAD over being a gay hater.

any argument over why channel orange wasn't that great always devolves into a " you dont like the album cause he likes dikk" debate.

When nikkas say this they just mean they want concious records to be popular....cuz clearly there are plenty of rappers who cover it....if u want concious records/social records to be popular these nikkas gotta step they game up....who's makin social records that are really made for mass consumption? I wish nikkas wuold mix it up bcuz sum of these albums sound like one long song.

These albums need more variation in subject matter. Meek Millz sounds like one song all album long. All these new rappers sound the same.

Social issues are addressed but sadly they won't get radio play. Take NaS's "Daughters" as the perfect example. The song barely charted and didn't get the airplay it deserved. Also just cause a rapper spits some street sh!t doesn't mean it's not conscious. "F*ck The police" and "Cop Killer" both had conscious messages behind them even though they were violent songs. But to Obama's point, I think in the mainstream yes, more social issues need to get airplay. There was way more balance in the radio in the 90's.

Nas Daughters did not address any social issues... It was a letter to media takeout...

Houston to LA like I'm Robert Horry.
Fck all dat

I would like rap to be more self conscious rap, not mere conscious about everything except you.

Im tired of the pious self righteous music from guys like Lupe, Talib Kwali, Mos def and the like.

We need more people liek the Kendrick's and the Lecraes, and the Big Krit's etc. that instead of makin themselves to be some sort of people above the problems they complain about they are conscious about they're own problems and they expose that so they can allow the listeners to walk with them and find the "solution" together

Fck these other self righteous ass rappers... Conscious rappers are lame

Give me some self conscious rappers plz :D

Don't know how you're in the red ... but this post is on point. Problem with Lupe and the Talib is that they almost come off as pompous. Kendrick obviously doesn't support the conditions of Compton, but doesn't dismiss where he is from and he just comes off as more relatable then some of these other consciously aware rappers.

A good mix is what's needed, it's too much fukkery right now.
90-96 had the best mix of everything going on with Nas, Krs, Wu, Big, Pac, Dre, Snoop, A Tribe Called, Outkast, Cube, PE, Jay, Naught by nature, Common, Main Source and on and on. Mad different artists talking about mad different shyt. And that was probably the reason why it's hiphops best years.

And I feel that we're getting closer to a better mix and it should keep on moving towards that direction.

When the labels started laying out blueprints for how to succeed, that's when the game got fukked up.

Worldstar is just flashy shyt? didn't we just see Lil Reese giving that girl those M Bison stomps?

didn't we see the some perfect uppercut ever on there?

don't they have a weekly fight complation of folks getting KFTO?

Worldstar is pretty much the CNN for all the ignorant shyt that goes on in black america.

If he really cared, he would create a law that would help various subject matters get radio/tv play.

But of course this doesn't fit the corporate agenda, the ones who really control the country.

:what:

this nikka can't be listening to the same shyt i am. nobody wants to hear about the ills of society for entertainment on the radio all day.

Didn't Killer Mike just drop RAP Music? didn't that fake political activist fakkit Lupe not put out FNL2?

all we need is more balance, and shyt like clear channel to stop deciding what gets played on the radio.

Right on....

I listen to all kinds of rap...from the straight up ignorant raps to the politically concious raps. Lack of balance is my only issue with the Hip Hop mainstream, and even that is changing, with guys like Kendrick becoming more well known and Lupe moving units.

So I agree with you.

This is pretty much what I wanted to post as well.

That's what I liked about Kanye when he first came out. Scarface and Blackthought come to mind as well.

I get what you're saying, the preaching to the choir and calling others out is lame a lot of times. People hate on Em cuz he's got a nutty/goofy side to him but nobody is more of an open book than him and DMX when it comes to being self conscious.

I wholeheartedly agree with the Pres. The onus is on me as an artist to speak up AND educate the masses through my music, as I did on my song "Negative to Positive"
