Yes, because we all became aware of this comment after reading our copy of Black Enterprise magazine. Obama has no idea that anything he says to the media no matter the size of the outlet becomes national news. That wasn't no damn dog whistle. I think if the Obama people wanted to aim a dog whistle at working class white people, he would probably choose a better, larger and more accessible forum than a print interview with Black Enterprise magazine.
He was asked directly about whether or not he's done enough for black business and he said he hopes all businesses succeed and he's not the President of black people. Then he went to say that his administration has been trying to get financing for businesses for locked out economically and that would help black businesses.
It was a standard, coached, fluff statement from a politician with very little substance, but it wasn't a dog whistle. You are really fukking stretching with that one.
I was being sarcastic. Of course he was talking to non black people in that quote, reassuring them that he's not going to do anything special for blacks just because he's supposedly black. Now you can agree or disagree with the "I'm not black people's president" position, but don't deny what he was obviously trying to do. Personally, while I agree with that position and understand why he decided to make his position clear, I think he could've chose a better way to articulate that position. Like another poster said, instead of saying that he's not the president of Black America he could've said that he was the president of blacks and everybody else. I certainly don't think that he says this about Latinos, women, Jews, or any other minority group that he's going to need to be re-elected. I think that it's fair to say that Obama takes the black vote for granted.
