Because you just said that black people should stop taking philosophy and political science courses as if they're art degrees. It's like how yesterday you missed the big part of that law school article which was linking to an article that supported social science degrees. My point is simple, african-americans (and hispanics) are underrepresented in the newsroom, in hollywood, as professors and teachers, in phd programs, in the legal field, in the medical field, accounting, etc.

Yet, you're sitting here telling people to ignore all that and just go be a STEM major as if everyone will enjoy that and as if there is no other place for other skill sets in the economy. There is a difference between making a nuanced decision, and saying abandon the social sciences in general. You're basically saying that we should put the hands of fields like psychology, criminology, political science, psychology and all other sorts of studies that lead to the policies that are enacted to affect the lives of people of color up to just white people.

Black people are underrepresented in the STEM fields, sure, but it's not the only avenue. Besides, starting salaries for liberal arts majors are up 3.9%. That's not to say I don't recognize supply and demand and the fact that STEM majors have the highest starting salaries nor that I don't want people of color to challenge themselves and get over that fear of math.

Yeah, up 3.9% from like $30,000 :childplease:

Honestly I don't even sh*t on art degrees. My main grief, is with individuals who are lost with no where to go. The people without a plan. The people who go to school and don't know what they want to be or how to get there. The people who don't do their research / homework

If art is your thing so be it. If that's your passion, I say go for it. There's a lot of dope innovation being done in the "arts". I think art gets a bad rap as well.

If people of color want to be doctors, Lawyers, teachers, professors, accountants, hard / soft scientist, 88m3, etc... So be it. That's good at least they know what they want to do and how to get there.

Once again my main grief is with unsure / unmotivated people. People who want to make a lot of money, travel the world and secure as little debt as possible in undergrad. The Solution: Engineering. No more no less...

All those things are probably more likely as a social science major than as an engineer to be honest. As far as being uncertain, most people in college don't know right away. People like engineers or undergraduate business school kids just have no other choice because they have to hit the ground running. I've had some friends destroy their GPAs thinking that they were built to be engineers and graduate with some geography bullshyt just to get out in 4 years. :snoop:

Oh yeah, that girl is bad. She reminds of this one Ukranian chick I'm trying to get at, chick is wiling though.

Actually the median starting salary for a liberal arts major (as in the generalized degree with that name) is 41,000 dollars. History majors start off at like 39,000.

I'd suggest you look at your information again. Do you even read Forbes man :thiswork:

IDK should society not enforce college until 21?

:heh: Be safe and be smart. I'd be damned if I messed up in graduate school over a broad...

Who said it was good money.

For a starting career, yes it is. You act like cats graduate to making 75k on the regular. You've been in that glass ceiling with those ivy league cats for too long. There's a lot more than goes into those liberal arts majors not getting jobs than just being a liberal arts major. But that's a long ass discussion.

Another problem I have is how HBCUs got to be so wack, how are HBCUs not putting cats on consistently and cornering markets :smh:

I wonder what it's like to go to a HBCU.

They're like unicorns to me, I've never seen one.

did you find another job to make up the loss of income or?

I'm working on a few things. I'm not going to sulk like many people I know. They act like their lives are over. I see opportunity. Now I can complete this Bachelor level certification program I'm taking at a Va Tech satellite campus. Guess cause I'm new to all of this I just refuse to put my faith in the Feds

The better HBCUs have plenty of alumni on Wall Street. I know dozens of people from Morehouse, Spelman, and Howard and work with a few. With regards to career opportunities, going to these three schools is nearly on par with going to an Ivy.

But they don't reach as deep into the class as they would if you were at another school and Howard specifically is known for having a terrible administration that is late with forms and organizing and you're often not given proper prep for interviews. But those are 3 schools, and I wasn't speaking about them. I'm talking about everyone else.

From poor administration to poor standards, my cousin transferred out of one and talked about how much of a joke it was academically and how people treat it like an extension of high school. It's a shame.

:what: 41k is great money. aint shyt that you won't be able to do with 41k unless you blowing it all on unnecessary shyt like shoes and hookers

:what:

There's no way you can adequately save for retirement and live a decent life (nice car, clothes, vacations, food) on 41k unless you live in some boondock ass Southern city where rent is 500 bucks a month for a one room apartment.
