Punching in saves loads of studio time and energy vs redoing the same lyrical miracle verse for hours on end.

Can't knock it if u can do it the right way.

There is no way.

Recording sixteen Individual lines separately. Is more efficient than a professional emcee.
Dropping in one take.
Stop.

it is literally thirty seconds to a minute.

versus.

all the time it takes to press stop and record on every line. Plus the idea of idle time, between all this. Plus setup for if the engineer has to constantly prep the setup to record.

Y'all punch in rappers.

would be taking shots of tastee dawg.
If you were around real producers and engineers.

they would be hard pressed to work with you.
For all those takes.
Plus time that could be going to.
the actual review and fine tuning of a mix.

A engineer in an analog world would have you banned from recording with him easy. As you would be causing an array of added issues. From time to mechanical.

you're confusing punching in with redoing a verse.. they ARE NOT the same.

redoing the verse is simply redoing your verse... 3 or so takes at 60 seconds each.. 5 minutes give or take..

punching in is ... they have NO song, NO structure and NO verse.. they just say line after line to what they feels sounds hot... that is IN NO WAY faster and saving studio time... they basically trying to write a song using punching in instead of paper and erasing and etc...

Not writing on paper is not punching in and punching in is not freestyling .... punching in is stupid.. LOL

punching in is only used to replace a word or two because you didnt like how it sounded

Unless u make music yourself I don’t think y’all understand how slick punching in can be when you are a talented artist. I’m 29 and I come from the era of three verses all written, rap it in one take yadayada. I understand the hip hop purist mentality but recording technology has come a long way and I’m sure some of y’all favorite legacy artist would be punching back then if the knew better and they prolly punch now. If u are strong songwriter it increases the capabilities of some of the schemes u can play with and it makes the art more cohesive cuz I doesn’t come off as stale how writing can sometimes. Just because a rapper records by punching doesn’t mean they couldn’t give u a technical performance if needed. Don’t fight the evolution 😂😂

Stop.

I know you consider yourself somewhat of a music historian and I respect it. Hope you learn that you gotta respect new innovations too whether you like them or not. There’s always something positive that can be pulled from anything

Stop.

There is no spin job for this.

As a matter of fact.
All we would have to do to end this punch in shyt.

Is show a session with a real emcee versus the punch in guy.
Plus the Invoice for the session between both artist in real time as well.
I notice the lack of anything centered around being an emcee.

That if we showed a real professional grassroots skill actualized emcee. versus a major label loan dodger face ass rapper. It would be clear as day.
who and what is/was better.
This is out the same playbook

Of them marketing being a loser.
then trying to say being a loser is the wave.

yall forgetting how much time it takes to write a verse that means something versus an empty rap of talking shyt.

Rappers been punching in from day 1. Greats.

Odb on fantasy remix

At this point Mariah had been calling every hour on the hour, wanting to hear something over the phone. Tommy was pissed because Mariah was keeping him up, so he finally got on the phone with ODB — and after that, finally we started to record. He said one line — “me and Mariah, go back like babies with pacifiers” — then paused, said, “Yo, I need to take a break,” and went to sleep for 45 minutes. He woke up and was like, “Yo, let me hear what I did so far.” We played his one line back, he sang another line or two, and then slept for another hour. He would come up with a line, punch that in, go to sleep. He went to sleep 3 different times in the middle of trying to get that one verse done. If you listen to the record now, on his verse, you can hear that it’s punched in in pieces. He actually told the engineer, “Y’all better have your shyt set and record it right, cause I’m not doing it twice.”

The entire bobby digital album was freestyle until you fukk up. Punch in from there. Written on the spot.

Its literally forcing you to put somethjng down versus writing and rewriting, over n iver. If afterwards you dont like it, you fix it til its done. Which is no different than dropping a whole 16 and spot fixing certain sections if you dont like how it came out.

Once its down you can do it in one take mire naturally than reading on paper

Ive been in the booth with many “rappers”. Most cant get a 16 down in one take sadly. Just the way it is. After a while you jusy tell them ti break it into parts if we taking 30+ minutes to lay down one verse. Or if ya the producer you just combine all the takes to make someone amateur sound professional. Ive literally had to kick people out for thinking they could drop it all at once and spend an hr to get it and still cant. Thats where demoing it and listening to it, helps you finish it later cause that delay between reading and spitting is no longer there and it sounds way more natural.

Noone said it has to be rushed. Thats the problem with these rappers today. They do this and just rush record multiple records everyday and just switch beats in and out quick ws hell and just keeo going til something sticks.

To make it seem like one way is superior to the other is nonsense. Its art. Theres no definitive way to do anything.

How dare you even post those two horrible takes face ass record to make your point.

Bobby digital and after the first odb lp session. Are a course in what not to do.

If you go to sleep in a paid session.

I woud throw yo ass out and it would be over for you.

you nikkaz keep posting nikkaz.
who never were the top draw and skill guys grassroots too.
So everytime any of you in general post this bullshyt. It shows you do not know hiphop history in full.
Let alone ever able to grasp reviewing a record.

If I asked you to pay for a Mariah session. That went over board. Like this. You would be looking to sue the fukk outta me.

Odb was not a grassroots top draw as an emcee.
They got on from a loan.

They never killed the underground as a draw.
Going to open mics.
Or on the radio.

If so.

where are the freestyles off the dome. That people ppint to as contributing to their draw before a loan or pr from a previous record deal.

They even chronicle the shyt in the TV show. As real talk.

The idea of a grassroots group in that era being unsigned and being complete. Was nationally only Das efx.

All that other shyt was made by them taking a twelve inch with no grassroots draw. After having. Major label backing and failing critically and culturally.
Plus having to re-invent bobby into rza. With the best gimmick arguably in anything. As kung-fu was arguably the largest grassroots permeating thing in American and world history. As far as commercial draw and viability.

On no day was any nikka in the wu. Killing it off the head and being the grassroots draw it guy. That was only two artist in that era.

Juice
Das efx

As far as artist showing and prove.
On the real grassroots draw building arena.

So now.

They were not.

They got a two record deals out of nowhere.

Then parlayed that into another twelve to save and relaunch their career.

Now we can. Talk about my actual real underground no major label debut single.

Plus...the fact it debuted and is on arguably one of the highest costing debut rap album in history.

We can talk about facts. Not your trash ass never reviewed a damnt using face aas takes.

Of which....
You like to give loan dodger credit to rappers. Who need a whole budget to do. What I just showed up to the radio station with a cdr and did.

I did not even have to print vinyl for my shyt.

Yet you on here.
trying to give credit to the most unskilled shyt.
That real talk. Could never be done grassroots.

Tha fukk.

You think that shyt is cool.
With odb passing out and waiting for him to wake up. Man stop.

We just lucky that shyt turned out right. How dare you use an outlier. To talk about business and a culture skill base in general as feasible.

Art Barr

You can not talk shyt to me. If you need a loan, marketing, pr and all this shyt. To get a draw from a record. When all I did was spit on radio and give my cdr to a radio station.

To be a headliner.
Just stop.
You only get to talk shyt on here.

As I was just as Incrdible at my career producing the profitability of the very internet products. You get to allow you

to even know you are capable of simple human functions.
like being Alive to communicating.

stop with the major label bullshyt passes.

No it is not good.
odb went and passed out and punched-in with Mariah.
We are just lucky it turned out alright.

Meh.

Everyone has their way

I for one, as an emcee of 15+ years .. started out doing the "nah hold up .. I can do the whole verse in one take! " thing.

One verse would take 30+ min to do.

That progressed into me doing as much as I could in one take until I was satisfied, then finishing the remaining 25% in another take.

Nowadays ..I just let my gut take me where it takes me on the record. Ill punch in every 2 bars if I felt like it

As I said, everyone has their way... Whether it's written OR off the top

Noone listens to that album bruh.

CD-R release. Lmao. Guys who draw dont drop cdrs they burnt themselves.

Its a dud. A complete non entity. Juice shyt on you when it became known you drop his name everywhere. You AINT juice.

You shytting on real rappers people know. With 30 year careers. Who influenced generations. We know you cuz you dont stop telling ya story everytime you feel like reminiscing.

Aint noone do whole takes no more. To pretend it needs to be done is to be arrogant that ya way is the only way. Only reason you had to do it in ine take was limitations of technology.

Did blues players write shyt down or did they just jam? Most musicians just jam. In all genres. Its the same thing. You dont need to spend time writing no more. Writing can be done after the fact. Guys dont even record to finished beats no more.

Stop it. Ya limiting what you can do by sticking with that old ass way. You dont need a pen to make music. Pretending you do is a lie ya tell to yaself.

There is no 1 way to create. You limiting ya own creativity. Thats why you burning cdrs telling internet mufukkas ya a legend.
