After the debacle of Atlanta which was recognised as one of the worst Olympics only NY out of that list stands a good chance

What the hell are you talking about? :childplease: Atlanta was the last profitable Olympics.

In terms of transport it was seen as a disaster by the IOC and it was decided afterward that any city putting in a bid would have to have excellent transport links

I know some people on the Dallas committee. Thinking about joining. Plan is actually coming together pretty damn, solidly. For those that know Dallas, they think they can get the Trinity Project, Fair Park master plan and downtown subway line fast tracked. Much more indoor space for temp venues than London. Trinity River Park has Urban Lake for rowing, Equestrian center and arena and White Water course already on the books that they are trying to get fast tracked. Fair Park plan calls for adding new Ford Building, continued reno of Automobile building, reconstructing Fair Park Arena as a new DISD Field House similar to Ellis Davis, and greening over some immediate parking. The Village would be near the Southside on Lamar, linked to rail by the maintenance yard to Fair Park. They have some crazy pedestrian trail projects to link to the park. The only events that would be outside of downtown or linked by rail are soccer, distance running and biking, and returned baseball. They want a softball complex at the Trinity complex. They are looking at June or September right before the State Fair. Damn good plan if they can get the projects fast tracked.

So is this official? B/c i've been hearing about them fixing the trinity since I was a kid. This would have been perfect if laura miller didn't get in the way of Cowboys Stadium near dwtn and making reunion a casino.

The money was approved for all of this in 1996. The Trinity Tollway design has been the delay. They had to wait on the Army Corps to inspect the levees, which took years, then they said the levees had to be reinforced underground. Now, in 2012 that is finally done. Still no Tollway design, but no one would defy them because everyone thinks the Tollway Authority is in the back pockets of the Park board. Well, TxDOT just defied them. They were supposed to wait for the Tollway design before announcing the horseshoe project(mixmaster and I-30 and I-35 bridges). Instead they put out the bids and have awarded them and start construction in March. The hope of the Olympic committee is to now to go straight to the feds to get the park money, which was already earmarked. They think they can get Fair Park money from Fair Park, which is about to go in the amusement business during the summer, and get the state sporting event fund.

I know that's long winded, but basically the money is there for the Trinity, but is in political limbo. The rest of the money would come from private donors wanting a new Cotton Bowl, revenue from Fair Park and existing state mandates. They think they can win the downtown subway line on the same formula they have with the other lines if the Orange and Green Lines beat projections. A few political hurdles to pass, but they aren't even long shots to have a winning type bid come bid time.

dallas didnt want it couple yrs ago..rather build that blue bridge..n let the cowboys move to tarrant coumty

Dallas wanted the stadium and had a deal in place. It was even scheduled to be on the Dallas County ballot that November. County Republicans fought it like hell because they had key state senate seats up for election and worried about the decidedly different than usual demographic that would show up to polls because of the stadium issue. So they fought to delay the issue when it would come up for discussion. Jerry wanted Dallas County because as a taxing entity it didn't deal with DART members' tax. When he couldn't get the referendum on that November ballot, he started looking at non-DART member cities that could use their quarter cent tax on the stadium. He found Arlington willing to pay quickly, so that's where he went. Dallas wanted the stadium so badly that they were willing to give up half of Fair Park and nix the AAC exclusivity deals after they couldn't get the County Deal on the november ballot.

The bridge was going to be built, fancy or not. The state had already put in a large amount of money into building that extension. The Calatrava design was paid for by donors, including the bridge's namesake before she died.

are you going by how old we can potentially be or by projection of future life expectancy, cuz right now...yea that is halfway done with life

72 and 80 I guess you're right technically. But when you're 40 you'll still have 25 years of work and thats what I mean, 30's 40's aint shyt
