It's definitely safer than when there were 2000+ murders a year and yes for a city of millions a few hundred deaths is safe but..they play with the crime stats in big cities, especially new york . Live in bk and turn to channel ny1 and every day there's at least 1 body and at least 1-2 shootings in bk alone. That's the ones that make it to the news. X that by 365 days....and you have crime stats that are completely different than what's being put out there and that's just brooklyn... so imagine adding the bx,queens and manhattan to the fold. At least these days you can mind your business and not get into shyt if you're not involved in that lifestyle for the most part. You're right... without a strong support structure a lot of dudes can't adjust are dying to go back in. I remember when I lived in south side queens my neighbors brother had done like 12 he went in a child came home a grown ass man... but he adjusted quick.. Had money, a girl, a crib.etc. Most dudes ain't like that though.

I hope the nail his ass to the wall on whatever charge fits. Get him for the gun, attempted murder (2x), attempted robbery and a bullshyt domestic terrorism charge too.
Hate to see young brothers get jammed up in the system but he's no innocent stop and frisk victim. And speaking of stop and frisk, I would bet that we'll see that shyt come back after it's brief hiatus; REGARDLESS of who the mayor/police commissioner is.
