they're not even making enough adidas Yeezys to meet the demand why would they make a corny $60 sneaker for Coli posters who dress like Kay Slay

This guy is old, meaning he is stuck in his ways. He probably just has one way of doing things, and that's it. People wonder why black music changed to what it is now, and its old executives like him.

I slept on Kanye, and his idea of fashion, but the more I observe him, the more I see he is a person who is ahead of his time with a lot of things. Most People claim to want different, and change, but most just go with the norm or what they are used to. I believe Kanye knows what he is doing. I heard old out of date nikkas like this guy always talking about what is what, only for them to be wrong. I only pay attention to people who are fearless, and creative. You only listen to "followers" when you want to see your obstructions, since they are the main ones telling you how wrong you are, just because you are doing things different from them.

"Business people" like him are not whom you want to follow unless you don't mind looking like a joke in the end. You will get a quick check though. Kanye isn't trying to do that, he wants a high end brand. Two different things.

the demand is artificial breh. If only 12 people want a product and the store purposely released 6 of course the 6 without are going to go on Twitter and basically advertise for the company for free. They don't need you to buy one of the 6 they just need you to get in the store.

But Kanye ain't doing shyt!!!

This is the old mans point right now. FORGET MUSIC. We know he's a genius and legend in that

Fashion wise he wears weird clothes.. Is anybody rocking Ye outfits in public? No

Does he have his own line bringing in millions of dollars or sales??? No

His sneaker sells out. Yes cause there's only 10k of them. Has he ever sold 50k shoes? No

Did Nike even trust to give him a percent to keep him? No

Would they for Jordan, Kobe, anyone who could sell 1 million? Yes

Has Nike gone down since he left? No

Has Adidas come up since he got there? No

These are called facts.... Numbers..... BUSINESS

So the hype is..... He's an icon, people love his clothes, he sold out shoes, he making Adidas more popular, so that makes it worth it

The reality is.... Nobody wearing his clothes, he only sold out cause the stock was low, Adidas has sold less, and 50 cent made more MONEY

If you think men in majority will be wearing baggy sweaters and women's yoga pants.... Then ride with it

I'll stick with old money. That people will be rocking tees and jeans 1500 years from now still. So instead of focusing on the outlandish. Make something for the masses and cake up

For the most part, the main goal for collaborations is hype. The hype works both ways. The celebrity and the brand both hope to gain prestige.

The celebrity’s design involvement is very limited.

First of all few celebrities have real design talent and none have any shoe building skills.

The brands will ask the celebrity about preferences and desires (“Teal is my favorite color”; “I love unicorns”) and these personalized elements are incorporated into an existing shoe design.

These shoes are not sold in commercial quantities. The pairs available are typically less than 5000. All the collaborations added together would barely move the sales needle for the industry.

I cannot recall a single celebrity collaboration has been commercially meaningful at scale.

The lesson here is that limited means limited. Just because a shoe blows out at retail on a small number of pairs does not guarantee broad commercial success, regardless of how popular the artist may be and how commercially successful they are. High resale value is not an indicator of broad commercial success.

:sas1:

Kanye does not need any more hype at this point. If anything, Adidas is probably trying to weasel their shoes onto some Kardashian and Jenner feet while their at it.

He makes it a point to declare how no rapper has ever had any design talent. Wasn't this the entire premise of Kanye signing with Adidas? That he would be allowed to create the shoes? He would be the one designing them and establishing the market trends which would force other shoe companies to keep pace with Adidas. Did Kanye not start Donda, which is an organization solely for design innovation?

While I agree that a limited release does not automatically translate to commercial sales, this guy is going out of his way to shoot this entire operation down.

If I were a gambling man, I would be willing to bet he either wrote this and then immediately purchased stock in Adidas or he's holding stock in Nike or another rival company.

His argument has no real substance and the market report he reference that he claimed showed Adidas taking a loss in sales showed that they had grown by 11%?

he writes for forbes... again... and like HE says... it's about BUSINESS NOT HYPE

he knows and writes that yes... it's for the hype.. but for consumers and fans to run around like "ye is killing the fashion game.. he doin this.. he doin that"

nah... he's not

KANYE was on the radio... saying in his own words "I WANTED TO KILL THE SNEAKER CULTURE.. i didn't want to sell my shoe for this high... i didn't want a limited release... I WANTED THEM AFFORDABLE FOR EVERYONE.. i didn't want people camping out, or reselling them................ ADIDAS WOULDN'T LET ME!!!!"

so stop with the "kanye has power" they let him draw up A shoe... that was it.. no marketing plan, no release plan, no budget, couldn't even price his own shyt

it may sound harsh... but business is harsh... ye knows fashion is even harsher.. he's doing what he CAN... but if we talking BUSINESS and numbers.... he's simply not putting them up

while someone like 50... was allowed to price his shyt low AND put it everywhere AND sell anywhere to the masses.. not only that... but he sold 3.8 million dollars of his shoe

again... hype, yea ye is bigger.... but would you rather be hyped into 250k or quietly make 3.8 million?? business baby

Everything you brought up had nothing to do with my argument.

Adidas did a limited release which was successful at achieving the objectives of that release. Kanye himself in the same interview you referenced said that it will take some time for him and Adidas to establish good communication and negotiating to get a good working relationship going.

The objective of their next shoe release could be entirely different. This shoe could have been something of a demo for upper management to see if he could move luxury shoes at a high price point. We, nor this writer know the inner workings of what is going on in those meetings. This is no different than an artist development process.

50 got one shoe because he couldn't design shoes. I realize you think Kanye is all hype but what do you call 50 cent in 2005? Was he not at the peak of his hype then? Ye could make multiple shoes that in the end will gross more than 50's shoe did. Are they dropping Ye from his contract? No.

He offered no solutions, he only said why he thought they should give up. Do you think giving up is a good marketing strategy? FOH

Kanye's impact on the culture > 50s though.

Who cares of 50 sold more?

Kanye changed the intrinsic value and culture surrounding that aspect of sneaker culture.
The only impact Kayne had on this culture is setting the stage for soft nikkas to plague rap since the late 00's
