How is this even a discussion :why:

It’s firmly his last or next to last album (not saying “worst” bc he doesn’t have any bad albums)

Yet some people are claiming it’s his BEST album?! So it’s better than the undeniable consensus classic?! So GNX is a classic?!? :mjlol:

That’s the gift and a curse of being both commercially and critically successful. We can both be fans but be listening for two TOTALLY different things. A portion of the fanbase are just like the Drake fans we clowned for ‘just wanting bops’.
Gkmc is kendrick's worst album imo (still a masterpiece doe)

and his consensus magnum opus is TPAB, by far. Thats the album that is being ranked as one of the very very best albums in music history, not just in rap.

GNX is a 9.5/10, and gkmc is a 9 imo

All that hoity toity, music nerd bullshyt is not nearly as prevalent as it seems.

The metacrtic everythings a classic crap cannot force people from gravitating toward a straight forward, jammin rap album, as much as the music theory crowd tries to deride rap and prop up all these musical elements as the end all be all.

GNX is more concise than GKMC and way more BUMPIN than TPAB which has always worked better as an art piece than a staright up rap album

I can easily see how someone would call it his best overall album which throws a monkey wrench in the narrative all the his previous work is so otherworldy.

Every KL album is 8/10 or better (except for the BP soundtrack), but I don't think this is as good as GKMC or TPAB (which are 10s).

On the other hand, 69G's best albums are 8/10, so yeah, maybe this is better.

It really doesn’t. Mr. Morale is the only ‘hoighty toighty’ album and even that’s only a few songs.

:dead: @ GKMC being complex. It’s practically the same album as GNX——a welcome to Compton , welcome to my hood’ album——except it’s executed better, more soulful, more cohesive, just better. It’s like comparing illmatic to King disease. Even at his absolute peak, 45 year old Nas can’t fukk with 21 year old Nas. Same here for kendrick

So the real answer is rap is at a weird intersection where the same person rating a Lil baby or future album is rating Kendrick. GNX is more digestible for those folk .
