The Notre Dame Cathedral is a national symbol for France, probably a step below the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. If you frame it in that context then you can see the impact it'd have on the country. Add to that, millions of tourists come in every year to see the cathedral.

If the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil fell down or the Sydney Opera house burned down or Pyramids were destroyed there'd be similar worldwide attention. These monuments/statues are very visible and draw a lot of attention.

This isn't even a thing about "Screw the French", it's just a thing of seeing a famous building burn down. That's all.

I'm indifferent to the French, but for the black French, who are usually of West African origin, I see them as my brothers (I'm Nigerian).
