Maybe I'm naive. But I'm still of the mind set it does not make any sense for North Korea to use their weapons against anyone unprovoked. I still believe that the attaining of nuclear weapons is purely defensive because they know most of the world wants the regime gone and with Nukes people are going to fall back.

As stated before, the regime has all the power, resources, and luxuries over their native population. If they get into a military conflict they will lose and will die. I think they know this despite their bluster and while all the juche deification of the family in that country is crazy, they're not stupid and crazy enough to not realize that they got it pretty good for themselves and gain nothing to bring doe. "Fire and fury" on them.

Honestly I'm more worried about what Trump will do.

Even if NK doesn't do anything justifying it, Trump may jump at any opportunity to start a war simply to boost his approval. And I don't even want to think about the possibility of him trying to use a nuke.

Japan and South Korea are conquered lands of the United States so they are enemies by default, the United States military is there, if the US military wasn't there they wouldn't be in danger nor where the North Koreans ever tried to get Nuclear weapons.

If I were NK I'd push for nuclear arms too.

They are effectively surrounded by an historically hostile nation (US) via military bases.

For far too long nukes have served not as a war deterrent, but as a do "what the fukk I say or else" mechanism.

I am not against seeing more parity on the geo-political stage. If that means NK, and Iran, and others get nukes...so be it.
