What is your big hang up on ending a military EXERCISE? Its fruitless at best anyway
My hangup? How do you negotiate from a position of overwhelming strength and concede on multiple fronts without receiving anything tangible. Mind you, this is the president of the USA negotiating with the lowest of the low dictators, personally.

This also coming after a similar deal that was producing tangible results was arbitrarily ripped up because it was a legacy item from a previous administration.

If this is a sequence of events that satisfies you then you are either partisan or a moron, and often they go hand in hand.

Trust me, I'm neither.
A position of strength??? :mjlol:
All those sanctions we put on nK with no result...what overwhelming strength!
You're not in a position of strength if your only recourse is negotiation or war (of the potentially nuclear variety)

Whole bunch of nothing ? Denuclearization is nothing .:ehh: Ending test sites was nothing ? I thought the whole point of talking to NK was to slow down the nukes and ease tensions with America and South Kore and Japan?

The signaling is now that, as long as you play your hand at developing weapons, you can bully the US into falling back. China and Russia can prop up regimes in contested areas of influence within the world and bully the US to bend to their will.

I had posted about this previously, but, from my understanding of the situation, it seems as though the status quo was probably the most beneficial outcome for the US within the region. Sometimes no move is better than any deal that you can get. Freeze them out, ignore them as a serious threat and continue to straighten your alliances in the area. There was no escalation in recent years until Trump himself came into office to posture for this meeting and what was exactly accomplished? Zero.

Play the contrarian role, though.

He has committed to getting rid of the nukes . Will he do it? Idk

Is the a step in the right direction ? Absolutely .

Anyone saying anything else about human rights and propaganda is a fukking idiot . We make deals and take photos with the worst of the worst.

Look how Trump is turning up in Yemen . We don’t need more of that . We don’t need more of that .

No escalation? You can't be serious. I'm on mobile so I'm not typing a long paragraph but nK has been an unstable threat to the region for DECADES, breh
This is a step in the right direction, and even China couldn't reel in nK even though the nK regime was their pet project

He got political points from a large mass of people who doesn't understand east Asian geo-political strategy on even a base level and will benefit domestically from it. You think he actually cares about the quality of the deal? They will believe him whatever he says.

What a gift to Xi. In a year and a half, the economic framework that was meant to contain China was thrown in the bushes (TPP) and now military co-operation will continue to break down in the area. If this fool gets another 4 years, there will be nothing left to contain China's aggressive rise in east:snoop:
China’s rise is inevitable anyway. The only way the US could stop it is militarily which there is no appetite for. The day of a unipolar world in which the US dominates is over. We are returning back to a multipolar world.

There is no reason to expedite it. Conceding one's ability to shape the rules of a multi-polar world is not a valid geopolitical strategy.

I wasn't a buyer of their unstable posture and China let them provoke the US as a distraction. I don't even think that they thought the strategy would be so successful.

If your mindset is that any deal is better than no deal, then we don't have anything to talk about:yeshrug:
