Am I lying? Taliban control 60% of Afghanistan. In Iraq the only reason why ISIS why is getting defeated is because the whole world is ganged up against them. However the Shia militias the US isn't gonna touch. The US bread and butter is naval and aerial supremacy but fighting an insurgency they are woat.
Another thing is Americas over reliance to air and naval power is also its weakness. That is why Russia and China are investing in anti ship, anti air missile systems. They know take out America ability to project naval and aerial power they are nothing. Look up A2/AD strategy. This is why Iran,China and Russia are more invested in anti ship,anti aircraft systems. It's cheaper and devastating. Proliferation of these weapons will make things stock for the US in the next 15-20 years.
North Korea will lose because of the 500,000 strong and excellently equiped and trained South Korean Armed forces.
The costs will be huge though..
The Russians aren't deviating from the Chinese. They don't want a war on their border. They don't want US troops and refugees near Vladivostok. It's very simple.
DPRK already has nukes. That's not changing. And war is in no one's interests.

No army is 100% good against insurgency. Not even the Russians. Because insurgency is like a wild card in war. They dont follow what I call "strict guidelines." Even so the USA badly weakened the Taliban in Afghanistan. Even tho the Viet Cong was giving hell to the USA troops the USA troops won most of the battles.

I know North Korea will lose. A North Korean War will be the best display of American conventional power. It will be a war playing into America's strength. The whole point of my post was that America's military isn't invincible. Put them in a non conventional war (guerilla or assymetrical) they are totally out of their element. They can beat North Korea but can the same be said of Iran or a Shia insurgency in Iraq backed by Iran or if Pakistan openly supported the Taliban with manpads or ATGMs. America is powerful but there is certain conflicts that would expose her military.
